Because I enjoy it more.

Then it's sad how little you enjoy Metropolis.

Totally. I barely enjoy this song. 34th favorite Dream Theater song, and I barely enjoy it. You don't seem to get that I love about every Dream Theater song, and it's very good to rank as high as it is.

Nekov

Not loving Metropolis more than other 33 DT songs is like not loving life

15. Finally Free

The best from SFAM, but it has lowered a bit for me. This used to be my 2nd favorite DT song, but you know, times change. It includes so many amazing moments. "Feeling good this friday afternoon" section,  "Their love renewed" section, "Spirits rise through the air" section. It has it all. The outro is kickass, and I could listen to it for hours. Okay, maybe not hours. Finally Free from doing writeups for SFAM songs!

14. Repentance

Say wha? Yes. Repentance. 14. Twenty spots greater than our beloved Metropolis. Yes, people hate me. Yes, I know. Yes, this song deserves its spot. Probably the ONLY highlight from Systematic Chaos, and it's a damn good one. If the rest of the album could have more quality songs like Repentance, it'd be among my favorites. I think 96% of DTF think this song is too long. Well, I must be that .01% that thinks it is just a tad too short. The beginning is haunting, and it increases as the song goes on. Before we go into a great debate about the spoken word section, I'll just go ahead and tell y'all that I absolutely love them. This song has one of the best outros in any song I've ever heard. Yes, it's repetitive, but it's good.

13. The Count of Tuscany

I'm not sure where this song stands with others on DTF. I see alot of people say it's overrated, and the lyrics are awful and whatnot. Then I see people who praise the hell out of it. I'm one of the latter. This song starts out amazing, and ends amazing. The middle section is the weakest part, but it certainly isn't bad by any means. Yes, the lyrics are different. I think they fit the music, and it's nice just to have a different song like this. The whole second half of the song is what gets me. Now that is magic. The last few minutes are epic, and I get a great feeling everytime I hear it.

Ah Repentance, great song. Not as good as all the other songs on SC, but still good.

I think it gets too much hate here.

Nekov

FF and TCOT are great songs. I like that you show some love for FF, thought I wouldn't way it's the best song in the album.

I'm sure my brain will have exploded by the end of this list.

The Count of Tuscany is great. Lyrics are pretty bad, but I don't let that get in the way of its music. The ending to that song is just... magical.

It's a good story.

I agree that Repentance is the ONE highlight from SC; easily the best song on that record.  Not top 20 material for me, but borderline top 50.  I always find it odd that so many people have a problem with the long outro.  People love to praise the endless amount of super long instrumentals that the band has done, but the one time they do a long outro that is all about channeling a specific vibe and riding it for several minutes without any overplaying, it is suddenly a problem.  Weird.

I mostly have a problem with the samples, not the music itself.

I love all the pieces of the 12SS, but Repentance is probably the best of them.  It really does not get enough love.

The last 7 are all great choices, Biscuit. :tup

But now that you're getting to the end, STOP MOVING SO DAMN FAST! :lol

Wow. Your list is certainly unique, though I totally agree with everything you said on Repentance. Easily the best part of 12SS (yes, better than TGP!).

Blob's right though, you could slow down a little now. I mean, when did you start? Yesterday? I like quick paces, but now that your getting towards the end, there's probably going to be a lot discussion (not that there has been little up unto now) and it would be damn shame to quench that.

Just my 0.02$.

I work better quickly. Don't worry, I was gonna post 2 a day when I get to the top 10.

Finally Free, TCOT are good... but I can't agree with Repentance

Thanks for all the agreeing comments!

12. Far From Heaven/Breaking All Illusions

Both amazingly beautiful works, though I much prefer the latter. To me, Breaking All Illusions is like a much better Learning to Live. Now before you all start bickering about the ADTOE/I&W comparison, don't. It has nothing to do with that. The intro is spectacular, and the awesome riff before the pre-chorus is just fantastic. The chorus is probably the best part of the song. I've seen people talk about how it just kinda ends. It does, but I think it works well. Though, that did take me a long time to get used to.

11. Vacant/Stream of Consciousness

Vacant is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard, and Stream of Consciousness is an amazing follow up. I prefer Vacant to SOC, shocker. I'm probably also one of the few that actually enjoys the Score version as well..however the studio version owns. It's simple, but very emotional and effective. Rudess is the master of this song. About SOC: I love it, and I think it's better to add it to Vacant. It can go off on tangents at times, but that's DT, so no harm there.

Now it's time to slow it down. I'll post #10 tonight, and maybe another or two tomorrow.

Good choice with Breaking All Illusions, the rest I don't really care for.

Breaking All Illusions always struck me as a better Metropolis :)

Both sets of songs are great choices.

It doesn't have the F#, therefore, it's automatically not better.

The F# isn't the best part of LTL.

No, but it automatically trumps everything on Breaking All Illusions. The vocals on Breaking All Illusions were so 'safe'. On pretty much the entire album, LaBrie's not using very much of his range at all. The only songs where the vocals do get impressive are at the end of This Is The Life, and the last chorus of Beneath The Surface.
Otherwise, it's my least favorite part of the album, and Breaking All Illusions is no exception. And 'he's getting old' is not an excuse. If he can perform Learning to Live and Metropolis on stage, he should've pushed his vocals a bit further on the new album.  /rant
