20. Home

One of my favourites from Scenes.  It's phenomenal in every way, the intro is cool, the main riff is bombastic, the chorus is amazing and the solo's are great.  James sings with so much intensity, there's some great harmonies too.  I think Mike's playing is excellent too.

19. Sacrificed Sons

Beautiful song; Jordan uses some gorgeous sounds, James sings lovely and great playing from the guys.  I do like the subject matter and they really wrote about it well.  JM's bass riff is amazing and the solo's are wonderful.  I think there are some wonderful chord progressions too.

18. Disappear

One of my favourite ballads, so sad but so good.  Those intro sounds are creepy as fuck but really add to the song.  Jordan's plays beautifully.  The verses are very cool and the chorus is amazing.  When the rest of the band entered I knew it was going to become one of my favourite songs.  Also who knew 5/4 could sound so natural? The section from 4:26 is unbelievable, James' backing vocals are crazily good.

17. The Great Debate

Another phenomenal (I really like this word) intro, Myung's bass, Portnoys playing and the samples.  Amazing.  Love the use of panning James' vocals to represent each side of the stem cell argument...very cool.  Speaking of James, he sounds great on this song.  Perfect song for his voice and range imo.  It has a very cool chorus.  The section from 6:55 is very cool, full of bollocks.  There's another awesome riff at 8:38 which I wish was used a bit more but awesome anyway.  Yet again seeing this song live was awesome, and really made me appreciate it more.

16. This is the Life

Another gorgeous song, some lovely playing and singing. Petrucci's and Rudess' parts are amazing and Myung really compliments that beauty.  Yet again I come to James, who sings with such emotion, awesome.  The solo is great, and that last chorus is ridiculous, always gives me shivers.  I love this song.

All good songs, although I've always considered Home a bit overrated (although still great within the context of SFAM), and I wouldn't personally rank any of them quite that high, except for Disappear. Nice write-up for that one too. :tup

Scorpion

Disappear is great, and I would rank it even higher, in fact. The rest are very cool to and would all make my list, though none quite as high as you put them.

Home is about right in that spot and TGD should be around there. The other 3 songs I don't really care for. And 1 of those 3 is in my bottom 3 songs from DT

Really sorry guys...been working away last minute with the band for a couple of days, so I'll just leave a quick update with no write-ups till tomorrow, then I'll provide one tomorrow leading up to 10!

15. Metropolis Pt.1

14. In the Name of God

Sorry again!

iamtheeviltwin

Love In the Name of God...it is a great song front to back.

BlobVanDam

Both DT classics! ITNOG would crack top 5 for me (maybe 3 or 4?), although Metropolis might be a tad lower just because of how many other DT songs I think are slightly more amazing. But that's a statement on the strength of DT's other music, and not any weakness on the part of Metropolis. ;)

jonny108

Yes, I'm a terrible person I know! Yet again I'm at a loss for time so I'll post these without write-ups but I will do my top 10 with!

13.  The Spirit Carries On

12. Breaking All Illusions

11. Learning to Live

BlobVanDam

TSCO is one of my favourite individual songs from SFAM. :tup

I'm indifferent at best to the other two.

Glass Moonlight

Agreeing with Blob here, the Spirit Carries On is always good, however the other two I really never got in to, I like Learning to Live but I feel like it's the weakest song on Images and Words. Breaking All Illusions I feel I'll like more in time.

Dreamer81

I'd place BAI and LTL a bit higher on my list...and TSCO is nowhere near my top 20.

Lolzeez

TSCO isn't even in my top 50. BAI isnt that high and LTL is in top 10.

Nekov

TSCO would hardly make it to my top 50. The other 2 songs are great

None of them would make my top 20, and BAI and LTL wouldn't make my top 50. Wanna fight about it? :73109:

Because you'd win. Easily. I'm not very fit.

Nekov

That's cool Blob, I like you enough not to want to fight you  ;)

LTL and weakest song on IaW in the same sentence? I shall raise the internet-knife on you!

Lolzeez

After Johnny can we actually have someone that has completed his list?

10. Vacant

What a beautiful song.  James' singing really reflects the lyrics he's wrote; full of sadness and emotion, and for good reason. The strings are an amazing addition, I love the Score version too. A short simple tune, but astounding in every way.

9. Bridges in the Sky

From that deafening roar (burp) that starts off the song, I knew we were in for a treat.  What an intro.  The choir building up into a thunderous riff is amazing.  All the guys play at their best, Mangini's playing is ridiculous.  What a drummer.  James sounds like James should on a heavy song, which I think was taken away on BC&SL. It has everything I love, a tremendous chorus, very cool heavy riffs and wonderful melodies.

BlobVanDam

Vacant. :tup Hugely underrated song. BITS is really good, although not one of my top DT songs.

Scorpion

Dreamer81

BITS is easily top 10 for me!!everyone is stellar on this song...this song and BAI beats everything on the 3 previous album for sure, IMHO..

iamtheeviltwin

BITS is one of the best songs DT has done in several albums.  It was the second song I heard from ADTOE and it mesmerized me from the opening throat singing to the final notes.

It actually made me go and dig out my Tibetan throat singing CD...I hadn't listened to it in a few years.  :)

BlackInk

Vacant as 10? Interesting, not what I would say but totally understandable actually.

Sycsa

All this time for two-line write-ups. You think you can finish within the month?

Destiny Of Chaos

Yeah, you really should post the rest of your songs and show some consideration for the other people waiting on the list.
