TMOLS AND SDOIT above that I&W batch makes you a heretic. The same thing applies for Lolzeez not having everything from I&W in his top 50.

Not in my top 10, but it's brilliant.

RuRoRul

Good to see The Ministry Of Lost Souls and Outcry  :tup Don't get why The Ministry Of Lost Souls isn't more popular. The instrumental section is one of my favourites.

Elite

Oh, I don't dislike it, though I never play it either, but it just shouldn't be placed above anything that off I&W.

True, Ministry is one hell of a song. And to the "more blind to its faults" thing: I really think that when it comes to SC, there is more mindless bashing than blind love.

BlobVanDam

I wouldn't put TMOLS that high, but still a cool pick. I'd put Outcry in my top 10 though. IF I WAS RANKING THEM BACKWARDS.

And SDOIT deserves its spot, if not 10 places higher. Haters gonna hate. :tup

TMOLS is a good song, but gets dragged down by the dragging of the instrumental section.

That i find funny as the instrumental does not drag.

BlackInk

I don't think the instrumental section drags on either, however I do feel the outro drags on a bit. But I don't see that as a serious problem for the song.

MoraWintersoul

It doesn't drag. It does run away with the song and marries it despite the differences in character, though :)

wasteland

Now you are being a bit too much poetic for the song you have chosen to defend  :lol

Also, :marriageanalogy:

No! That song is in my top 50! I can be as poetic as I want.

Also, holy fuck, I'm infected with :marriageanalogy:

Same, probably not even in a top 75. But then again, neither was SDOIT in mine.

Wouldn't rank TMOLS that high, but the other choices were good.

:lol Seriously, those lyrics are quite weird. I remember trying to figure out the meaning in the old Dt.net forum... Everytime I thought I had it, I found something that didn't make any sense at all.

Yep. I'd say most people who like it are more than aware of its faults. It's hard not to be. I think anyone on here who loves it must have come to that decision after weighing up the pros and cons - can't disregard them, the internet wouldn't let them!

Word - I do really like the instrumental section. I even quite like the way they transition it. There's that little drum bit, underscoring that, yes, shit's going to get real. Real shit is impending. As well it might.

Weirdly, the one bit I think doesn't work is the transition out of the instrumental. Love "Wanted to deserve a place," wouldn't change that for the world, but I think the way it goes from the chuggy bit back into the main theme, it's a bit like, "Right, all that and we're dropped straight back where we left off?" It's a bit like going on a two hour drive across the country, but when you get to your destination, the elastic snaps and pings you back to your front doorstep. Don't feel like it quite takes me on the journey I wanted it to. But there's a lot of cool stuff. It's a song I could've happily made some changes and edits to, but it gets way more than its fair share of hate for what it is, so it's ace to see a bit of love for what it is.

Well, it's still one of the best songs of the album, after ITPOE1, TDEN and maybe on par with Repentance.  :blush

10 - Bridges In the Sky (A Dramatic Turn of Events)

Entering the top 10!

It has, since the album came out, been tough for me to decide which one is better, Bridges In the Sky or Outcry. Mean Outcry has that great instrumental section and grand feel to it, and these two songs have switched place several times.

In the end though, I'm going with Bridges In the Sky. That intro is something really cool and a bit different from other Dream Theater stuff. The awesome 7-string riffs throughout the song are all really heavy and awesome. I also adore the solo sections, it reminds me of all those typical classic Dream Theater solo sections. Those pre-chorus sections are cool with their weird little... I actually don't know how to say that in English. Change of key? Whatever, those "take me higher" and "spirit guide erase" parts.

But what truly won me over with this song is the great chorus and those wonderful post-chorus sections after the second and last ones. Those parts are just really really good.

09 - Blind Faith (Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence)

Always liked this one. It feels so fresh and clean in every way, but at the same time strong and just raw. Unforced, is another way I'd like to describe it. It's like it became so very good, without trying to hard to be. Music in general rarely gets this good.

My favorite section is probably the "but still life pushes on" part after the second chorus. Something with the combination of those vocal melodies, those great lyrics and the perfectly matching band behind just lefts the whole song.

The instrumental part is really fun too. The solos are all well made and the unison is simply sick (in the good way).

Completely.

Very nice to see BITS that high! It just narrowly misses my top ten, but it's right there. Blind Faith, on the other hand, is about 20 steps higher than one week ago, but still quite low compared to your placement. Good batch! :)

RuRoRul

Very true about Blind Faith - that part is my favourite as well, one of the best moments in DT.

Bridges In The Sky is significantly higher than where I'd rank it, although obviously it is a good song.

Blind Faith is one of those rare experiences when the opening song is so good, you think nothing will come close to it for the rest of the album. Then comes the second song and immediately kicks it up a notch!

Nice 9 and 10.  I should get started on my list, considering there are only 2 people in front of me now.

Love both of those songs. At one point, both of those songs were in my top 10 but they've been knocked out of it.
