Yes I do. It's a great straight-forward rocker, despite the Twilight lyrics. When they played it here in Salt Lake City during the recent tour, it was very well received, probably second only to Fatal Tragedy.

It's kinda sad that people actually let Twilight ruin Vampires and Werewolves for them. For me, those things will always ring back to the original Dracula and Wolf Man, and stuff like that.

I miss them as well, but I think the song has a stronger parallel to Twilight than Dracula. Kind of a vampire/siren combo sort of thing.

BlobVanDam

I don't always listen to SC, but when I do, I listen to Forsaken.

When it comes up on shuffle, I do. Otherwise I only listen to it when once in a blue moon I'll listen to a random whole album and that album happens to be Systematic Chaos.

For what it's worth, it's not just Twilight that ruins vampires for me.  It's the fact that pop culture has become saturated with vampires.  There's a bookstore I go to, and whenever I pass by the Teen Fiction section I have to cringe because half of it is about vampires.  And then I go to the horror section and cringe all over again.  I still think vampires and werewolves are fucking badass, I'm just tired of them being everywhere.  It's like, alright, yes, vampires are cool, but can you write about something else?  The horse isn't quite dead, but it needs months of recovery time in intensive care.  Let it rest.

... Only tangentially related to Forsaken, I know, but still worth saying I think.

It's been a while since the last time I read Dracula, so correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't he basically whisper people into coming within his reach?  Unlocking their window so he could get access to them?  Meeting him in the park?  Stuff like that?  If I'm wrong, ignore me, but if I'm right, then I hardly think the 'siren' element makes the song more Twilight than Dracula.

And besides that, I seem to vaguely recall him literally showing up in an ivory mist.  That was among his powers, was it not?  Controlling a sort of mist or fog?

EDIT:  Could have sworn I'd already posted in this thread.  Apparently not.

Yes, I still listen to Forsaken.  Great song, though I'm (obviously) not in love with the subject matter.

Cruithne

Yes. It's the only song from SC I still listen to.

The lyrics don't jump out at me in particular so I've never really thought about them.

N4Player

Love Forsaken with a passion. Played live, it gets even better.

Not bad for an Evanescence ripoff.

That's just ridiculous.  Please re-read the forum rules.  Contructive criticism and tactful expressiong of dislike is fine, but comments like that are not.

Sorry bosk1. Will be more constructive in the future.

BlackInk

My cousin listens to Forsaken daily. It's the only Dream Theater song he likes.

Ryzee

When I first heard this song I thought it was about Sylvanas Windrunner.

yorost

Forsaken is an in and out top ten Dream Theater song for me.  One of my go to songs on Systematic Chaos.

TL

I'll still throw it on every now and then.

Well, to be fair, if Twilight was about a hot vampire chick, it would be a hell of a lot more redeemable. On that note, I think Forsaken, not only in terms of content, but in terms of tone, is a lot closer to movies like Underworld than Twilight. And I got no problem with that.

Thanks.  And, again, for the record.  You don't have to like it.  Just watch the tone.

Implode

I just realized I was thinking of the wrong song.

Good thing no one pays too much attention to my posts. Saves me some embarrassment.

Now I'm wonderning what song you was thinking about, AROP? BMUBMD?

Implode

AROP. Forsaken is actually a little bit better. I've gotten some appreciation for it since seeing it live. But it's still not one of my favorites.

gagedez

I still listen to it. I like the song a lot.

Excellent post.  When I was younger, John Carpenter's Vampires or Bram Stoker's Dracula or Interview With the Vampire came out and now it is more of a trivia question than what I think of when someone talks about vampires.

That stuff didn't ruin Bela Lugosi's legacy for me and this new shit sure as fuck won't either.

TheSilentHam

Yes I still listen to it, and enjoy it... but I could say the same about any DT track,

Lucidity

As someone who thinks Systematic Chaos is a fantastic album (I don't know why it gets such a bad reputation--it doesn't have the soul that some DT albums have, but neither did Train of Thought, which everyone loves... SC has some awesome moments [I personally prefer SC to Train of Thought {I might not if ToT didn't have Endless Sacrifice and Honor Thy Father}]), I think Forsaken is a low point on the album. Sure, it's a great song, but it pales in comparison to Ministry, In the Presence, Prophets of War, etc. One of DT's more boring/straightforward songs.

Don't see that very often.   :tup

I'm not sure if you mean his opinion or the triple brackets. :lol

Jaffa

I was referring to the brackets.  But yeah, the opinion too, now that you mention it.

robwebster

Well, see it once more - I'm gonna second it!

And I love seeing the words "Train of Thought, which everybody loves." I remember when that was the newest album and everyone was freaking out. Oh, time!

Eldomm

I like Forsaken, I even used it as a ringtone for a few months when SC was released. ;D

Cyclopssss

Not really. Sorry, just don't think it's one of their better songs....

ApparatusUnearth

It's alright. I prefer DT songs to be longer.

Samsara

Its ok. I really don't like Systematic Chaos as a record, but Forsaken and Constant Motion are tolerable for me. It does have a good solo.
