What's your least favorite song on ADTOE?

On the backs of angles
Build me up, break me down
Lost not forgotten
This is the life
Bridges in the sky
Outcry
Far from heaven
Breaking all illusions
Beneath the surface

Omega

What the heck is wrong with you people?!

Lost Not Forgotten is amazing!

RandalGraves

Easily Outcry.  I really don't get the love for the song, as it's a mess.  Boring melodies and chorus, and instrumental break that's trying too hard to be Metropolis, lyrics that do absolutely nothing for me . . . I skip it almost every time I listen to the album.

There is pretty much a consensus about the best song on ADTOE (BAI)

Not even close to the best song on the album.

i can't stand harmonic minor scale  :)
??? That's very odd. Regardless, not very much of the song is based on the harmonic minor anyway. Instead, they use the same Arabian scale you'll find in Home for the greater majority.

Phrygian Dominant :D

i tend to view most of the music in major/minor categories. the way i see it is, the scale used in both home and lost not forgotten is based in harmonic minor- for example, it's a scale going from e to e (the dominant tone) in a harmonic minor, the same way as i tend to see a song in d lydian (for example, satriani's song time machine) as a part of the A major scale- a scale going form d to d (the subdominant tone). it's a bit complicated, maybe even wrong way of looking at it but it works for me     that's what i meant by not liking harmonic minor scale used and not liking it in general. having heard the song for a couple of times since i posted that coment trying to force myself into liking it (LNF, y u no good song to me?!  ;D), i noticed that it's not that much about the scale used- i simply don't like the melodies and the beat. home, on the other hand, has much better melodies and beat IMO

Innocence Faded does not have anything I would consider a feature of metal.
Innocence Faded's outro, regardless of key, is far too heavy to be considered anything but metal, I don't think. (Double bass, ridiculous riffing, etc.)
No way.  Not metal at all.  If anything, it sounds like the Dixie Dregs - rock/jazz fusion.  I mean, that outro sounds like the Dregs wrote it.

I agree with BVD on this one completely, Innocence Faded is not metal at all, but a melodic rock song.

I'm with the majority BMUBMD easy choice. Lost Not Forgotten is awesome it has too many votes.

fadetoblackdude7

BMUBMD.......LNF is right behind it, although that song has been slowly growing on me.

Outcry is the best.

How the heck does Far From Heaven have more votes than LNF.  It boggles the mind.

BMUBMD, easily. So out of place on this grand album.

I do find it surprising that a lot of people dislike LNF and Outcry.  Two of my favorites on the album.  :lol

I find it surprising that people dislike BMU, BMD.  It is currently my most played song from the album in my iTunes.

I think it's the worst song on the album and that there's nothing seriously great about it, but I think there's something to it that becomes more apparent each time I hear it. The chord progression that Jordan plays over the half-time riff near the middle of the song, for example, is incredibly creative and very unlike anything you'd hear A) in a similar radio-friendly tune and B) in any other song in the rest of DT's discography. There's really more to it than is apparent immediately.

ishak540m

I do find that the unison in BMUBMD is my least favorite part on the album though.  It just seems a bit unispired to me.  It's hardly a criticism though because I do like the song.

Pols Voice

OTBOA is easily my least favorite. Lyrics can make or break songs for me, and I usually don't like even vaguely political lyrics because it just makes me picture a bunch of buttugly DC politicians. I listen to music to escape from the news, man. :coolio

Also, I don't like most of its vocal melodies.

My vote was LNF. Least favorite is the poll, there is no hatred on the song from me.

LNF runs way to close to another song, compared with the others. The thing about that other song is that was the last song I connected with on that album. Even still, it is hard for me to want to hear that other song. So that is partly the reason behind my choice.

I also like the simplicity of the two others in the top 3. LNF has not really hooked me with anything yet, riffs or vocal melodies. FFH and BMU, BMD have. But I understand and appreciate LNF; just not as the other two.

skydivingninja

I like BMU BMD.  Its a good song.  Its not amazing, but its the best "radio friendly" DT tune we've had in years.  (Not counting "Wither" because power ballads haven't been radio friendly for what, twenty years now? :P).  I can't understand it getting the most plays on iTunes when songs like Bridges, FFH, and BAI exist though :P

There are 185 votes and only one is for BAI. And it is mine vote. I honestly don't like that song at all.

LieLowTheWantedMan

BMU, BMD I guess. Tough choice, I like all the songs.

Slain

This Is the Life. Only song on the album that I regularly skip. Build Me Up Break Me Down is probably second to it.

Agreed. However, I still like BMUBMD better than almost everything on BC&SL, 8VM and SC.

It's probably my most played song as well, and I can say exactly why.  Even though it's not my favorite (that's BITS), I really like to have some easily digestable material from DT in addition to the complex, sprawling epics.  If I'm just driving down to the corner store, a lot of times I want to play a DT song that I can actually finish listening to on the way.  And BMU, BMD is a song that perfectly fits such a mold.  Banging riff, cool chorus, etc.  I also really like that it has the slower unison section rather than the million notes per second solo a la AROP or "Constant Motion."  And I really think BMU, BMD could be a strong single on the metal airwaves or Headbanger's Ball or wherever the hell metal singles get exposure these days.  Anyway, just my take.

Jarzombek

ADTOE has one only really bad song: Build me up, break me down.

Actually i always listen to the whole album and never skipped a song!
Even the slow ones, which i normally would rather skip.
I did have a break now for a few days listening to the new machine head(unto the locust), for me their strongest ever, but now i am back with adtoe.
Still love it :heart
By the way about the metal discussion:
When i am listening to the last 4 maiden outputs, which i did once which each of them, how much more pop(In the most negative sense you can think of) can you get? :tdwn
That is what i love so much about DT, i still love every album they do :heart.
Nothing really mediocre ore stale! Still going strong :hefdaddy
