"Tonight on stage in Boston, we will have a very special guest join us!! Any guesses?"

Who dat?

But seriously, are we talking an ex-member, or just a special guest for a cover that is native to Boston?

KevShmev

John Cena.  He is from the Boston area, and when DT surprisingly busts out Prophets of War, Cena will "rap" the spoken word section in the middle.

I think Aerosmith is from Boston. Steven Tyler joining them for a progmetal version of Love In An Elevator?

I'm going to guess Nuno Bettencourt or Gary Cherone.  Given this is their first run through Boston with Mangini in the band, it would make sense.  But it is purely a guess on my part.

EDIT:  Blob, I put *spoiler* tags in your title since it isn't clear from the title that we are discussing the Boston show, and some people may not want to know in advance that there will be a guest or may not want to get caught up in the speculation.

I'm not sure that would fit with DT (assuming they're playing a cover/song with that guest), but it's probably about the most realistic guess so far.

No problem. I didn't think of that. :tup

The Letter M

Hmmm... the question is - will the special guest perform with them on an original (new or old) or on a cover? And if it is a cover, will it be familiar to the special guest (i.e. from their native band or discography)?

Hard to say for sure, but I think it fits either way.  An Extreme cover would definitely fit DT's wheelhouse given that they've covered "classic rock/metal" and "progressive rock," and Extreme is kind of right in between the two.  And it might not even be a cover.  I could see Nuno jumping onstage for a solo/jam type thing.  But I think the more likely scenario would possibly be Gary jumping onstage to sing a DT song, either alone, or as a duet with James.

Marion Crane

My guess is Gary Cherone will hop up there and they're cover Van Halen III in its entirety.  How many say I?

Is Nuno still touring with Rihanna?  Because if he is, she is performing in Glasgow today.  So unless she gave him the day off, or he's no longer with her, maybe not him.  Though I would LOVE for it to be him.

Cool Chris

Mookie Wilson. 25 years of DT, 25 years since the 1986 Series!
Maybe the grass is greener on the other side because you're not over there fucking it up.

Zook

Christian Bale. They will open with A Nightmare To Remember.

Obfuscation

A member from Extreme when Mangini used to play with them.

WildeSilas

I would give my left nut to see Nuno and DT on the same stage together. Surely the theater would explode from the awesome.

Yes he's still playing with her, pics from last night's show on his Facebook, so that takes Nuno out of the guesses.

The last special guest I saw at the Orpheum with DT was Mike Mangini   Man can't wait for tonight! :metal

Nuno was the first person I thought of. He was quoted in last week's Boston Globe article about Mangini.

Nuno and JP in one stage? I don't care if I get impotent from the awesomeness, it'd be worth it.  :tup

cyberdrummer

I thought we'd established he couldn't be there; he's with Rihanna in Glasgow.

I'd go for Rod Morgenstein as well.

ZeppelinDT

Gary Cherone would be perfect for a Who cover.  Remember he did do "Amazing Journey" with MP... he does one hell of a Roger Daltrey....

I hate to say it, but that wouldn't interest me in the least. I don't even like Extreme!
Personally, I'd love to see Tom Schulz come out and DT corevering Foreplay/Long Tme.

I have a hardtime seeing this Aerosmith related.
Is Morganstein local for some reason? I have never heard that.

I think I'm going with Lord Stanley.  Mangini is a Bruins fan, there is a day game in Boston right now and the Bruins were at the Pats game with the cup yesterday.

Steve Stone

Epic Encore with Steve Stone on vocals in Metropolis and Chris Clinton on A Change Of Seasons.

I'm not the special guest but I've helped the special guest in a way. You'll see. :)
