I've taken a break from here until I was able to listen to the new album enough to form my own opinion but I can't find any thread/poll asking if you liked it or not. I want to see what the general concensus is.

edited and poll added

Metrovarium

I think there was a poll, but it's back a few pages now, and it's not accurate really since it was made the day the album was released. For the most part, everyone thinks it's an improvement over their past couple of albums, and some people have it ranked pretty high. It's at #4 for me, actually.

?

I did a poll to see how people view ADTOE compared to the previous albums, and most agree it's better than the previous 4 records: https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=28190.0

YtseJam

Thanks for the link. Maybe I'll just make a poll in this thread

Jaffa

I definitely don't hate it, and it definitely doesn't bore me, but I'm also not sure I'm quite ready to say I 'love' it.  I love Beneath the Surface, Bridges in the Sky, and Breaking All Illusions.  The jury's still out on whether or not I love the rest.

But I think it's at least a good album overall, for sure.

YtseJam

I'm still not ready to vote because I haven't made up my mind yet. Something about this album doesn't click with me and I haven't decided what it is yet.

TheKillingHand

Nearly a month on and probably over 50 listens and I still can't stop listening to it, I'm not in any way bored of any of the songs. I definitely didn't feel this way about the last few albums, this one is definitely on another level for me

Mr. Beale

Still on a "like it but don't love it" level but it's still growing.

Herrick

It's a good album. Too many ballads though.
DISPLAY thy breasts, my Julia!

Aquila Chrysaetos

Been listening to the album a lot lately and I can say I absolutely love almost every second of it!

Zydar

Love it. It's their best in many many years, and a #4 DT album right now for me.

tristl

I absolutley love it, my number two after I&W. :metal :hefdaddy

Montsegur97

It's unfortunate, cause the more I listen to it, the less songs I want to bother with.  I really only come back to 2-3 songs every time I give it another listen.  I really think the number of ballads just brings it down quite a bit.  It's unfortunate cause it started off well, but it's not really getting any better with a ton of listens.

This.

Although I have to add that I really enjoy SC and BC&SL, but this is just better.  :metal

None of those options.  I don't love it, but that doesn't mean I think it's boring.

Dublagent66

Haven't heard the whole album yet.  Having a hard time getting into it.

The Letter M

Love it! Been playing it as much, if not more than BC&SL when it came out.

It's definitely a huge breath of fresh air since their last one. Honestly, overall, BCSL is, I would say, their most underwhelming album. It had its moments, but they're largely surrounded by mediocrity.
So after something like that, to get a stellar, epic album like ADTOE was just awesome. It's pretty much tied for third right now for me.

D_Halco

Tons better than BC&SL and SC, only slightly better than 8VM.  It has more fantastic moments than bad, but I still DON'T think it's perfect.  It makes me excited for their next album for sure though, as it is DEFINITELY a huge step in the right direction.  Solid 7-8/10 for me.

Jamesman42

I haven't taken it out of my car since the day I first got a hold of it. So...

Only LNF is getting less plays, and BMU, BMD as well.
\o\ lol /o/

FlyingBIZKIT

My 2nd favorite DT album, behind Six Degrees.

LieLowTheWantedMan

Zoom E

It currently sits at #4 in my ranking of fave DT albums and could end up higher with time. Can't stop listening to it.

black_biff_stadler

If this album had a dick, I'd suck it.

Drummertjuh

The album is still growing on me.
I can't say I don't like it, time will tell I guess :).
The only thing that bothers me is that Mike Mangini got no involvement at all.

Jamariquay

A Dramatic Turn Of Events is the best album they've made since Six Degrees.

Now, I've said that about Octavarium, Systematic Chaos and Black Clouds at various turns (usually when that respective album just debuted), but this time I mean it, darn it.

Honestly, meh.

Same here. I just don't see that magical "return to form" that everyone is singing about, to me it feels pretty much like previous albums, only with better production. I guess I'm not much of a DT fan anymore.

DP_Gumby

Words can't describe my thoughts about ADTOE.

But this shure as hell can:  :hefdaddy

IMO, Black Clouds is better, it had better songs and better melodies.  You are right about the production, it is a lot better than Black Clouds.
