Since the release of ADTOE, I've seen approximately one billion posts calling the album a 'grower'.  It got me to thinking about DT songs about which my opinion has changed a lot over time.

For me, the biggest one is probably In the Presence of Enemies part II.  For a long time I thought it was one of SC's weakest tracks.  But when I listened to it last week, not only did I like it more, but I couldn't even remember what exactly I ever didn't like about it.  It's still far from being a favorite of mine, but I definitely like it a TON better than I did at first.

So, what about you?  What are your biggest 'growers'?

6DoIT.  My original opinion was that there the first disc was good, and I wasn't really all that fond of the second disc.  The Glass Prison, The Great Debate, and Disappear all turned out to be major growers, and I started to like the second disc a lot more as well.

SFAM was also a big grower.  I actually thought it was a disappointment at first.   :rollin

Individual songs... The Count of Tuscany grew on me a lot, but it's kind of faded back again.  Unless there's something else I'm not thinking of, I'm thinking The Great Debate.  It's still not one of my favorites, and it's my least favorite track on 6DoIT's first disc, but I originally hated it, and now I enjoy it quite a bit.

Awake is in the process of growing for me. I used to think it was the worst album (besides WDADU) but I'm coming around to a lot of the songs on it.

On an individual song basis - Learning to Live is up there (I used to think it was too long and boring) and Metropolis is another one - basically the same thing, but I only thought that for a couple of months. To be fair, it was the first piece of progressive metal music I'd ever heard.  :P

Metrovarium

I used to hate Scarred, and now it's probably in my top 10. Awake as a whole, actually, has grown on me quite a bit in the last several months. When Dream and Day Unite was also a grower, albeit at a much quicker pace than Awake because it didn't take me long to get over the production problems.

Unfortunately, the opposite has been happening with certain albums and songs. For example, I used to love BC&SL back when I first got into DT, but now the only songs I really care to listen to are TSF and TCOT.

For albums, FII and Octavarium were about the only growers. Took me weeks to get into those. Even though I loved most of SDOIT instantly, a lot of the first disc were growers for me, especially BF and Disappear.

I have to admit that Awake was a grower for me  :blush It didn't last long, though, 'till I appreciated the whole album for the work of art it is.

Cranky

Falling Into Infinity is an album that I was never fond of since I started getting into Dream Theater back in 2002
I didn't respect it, I didn't enjoy any of the songs, I never even listened to it after the first listen.

And, now, about 9 years later, I still don't like most of it...

But, a couple songs have grown on me, namely Hollow Years, Burning My Soul, and Hell's Kitchen...
I've been giving the other songs more of a chance, but they don't really stick to me that much.

Maybe in due time...

It's just strange, because with any other band/ song, I'd hear it once and automatically decide if I like it or dislike it, because it's a waste of time otherwise. But, with Dream Theater, it's hard to do that... It can be several listens, several days, months, and even years before a certain song or album will just  suddenly click with you. I've learned that if I don't like a DT song, that I should give it more of a chance.

I once thought that Surrounded was just filler. Oh how wrong I was.

The Silent Cody

There's a couple of songs that have grown on me.
Under A Glass Moon
Lines In The Sand
Voices
Strange Deja Vu
The Great Debate
8VM
Repentance
Lost Not Forgotten
On The Backs Of Angels ;)

The big one which fallen very very low is Stream Of Consciousness :)

TOT has been the only DT grower for me.  I still think most of the songs come off so much better live than on the album.  Definite bias there though because I saw Live at Budokan before ever hearing TOT.  (I had been on a DT hiatus since SFAM)  Budokan hooked me back in  ;D

Mastervai

Had awake for 4years till i started to appriciate it.

Started with images as a second hand, so the first "Real" album for me as a fan was scenes.

Only recently i've come to love awake especially voices  :hefdaddy
