Alright, here we go:

Trial of Tears
Beyond This Life
Endless Sacrifice

TheAtliator

All in first set of The live at Budokon show? Plus I think they're numbers 3, 7, and 10; and 3+7=10  :lol

Pols Voice

TheAtliator

All have three choruses, the first two being before the instrumental and the third one after. The second is longer than the first, and the third has a stronger backbeat than the first two.

Pols Voice

Ben_Jamin

Each one comes back to the chorus after the instrumental and ends with the main melody.

They're all longer than 10 minutes :neverusethis:

Trial of Tears ends in G# (or is it A-flat?), the beginning key of Beyond this Life

Beyond this Life ends in D, the beginning key of Endless Sacrifice.

Major and minor are kind of ignored in this theory, so this probably isn't the answer at all.

No, but nice effort!

Oh you.

Pols Voice

Some of these guesses were vaguely on the right track. Feel free to keep throwing things out there to see what sticks (I don't want to kill the game :-[).

GasparXR

On all three songs, the final chorus is at the very end of the song and are diffrerent from the previous choruses in some way. BTl = heavier, ToT = stronger beat and altered lyrics, ES = only features the second half of the chorus in terms of lyrics (moments wasted...).

TheAtliator

#643
Just to narrow things down, I will say it has to do with the songs themselves (either music or lyrics), and nothing to do with where they're placed on albums, the titles, or set lists.

TheAtliator

I just noticed this, got really excited, raced online to write this, then remembered you said its not about the choruses. Anyway here it is-

In each song's chorus there is an instance where the vocal melody does the minor scale degrees- 2,3,2,1 at the end of the phrase.

The word "faaaarr" in our deeds have traveled far from btl
The words "new York city" from tot
And "me why" in someone tell me why from es.

:omg:

Pols Voice

Some of the guesses are more interesting than the actual answer. Don't overthink it...the solution isn't complex!

Elite

Some obvious stuff:

- all songs have an instrumental section
- all songs have a guitar solo
- all songs have verses with clean guitar and choruses with distorted guitars (yeah, you could argue about Beyond This Life not fitting this scheme)
- all songs feature have their title sung at some point in the song

One of those is definitely on the right track.

BlobVanDam

All of the songs have back to back keyboard/guitar solos? (although not always in that order).

Scorpion

All have a guitar solo followed by a keyboard solo, in that order?

Pols Voice

I'm trying to think of a hint that won't just give away the answer. :P Let's just narrow it down to this:

Quote from: Elite on April 13, 2013, 04:18:04 AM
- all songs have an instrumental section

Elaborate on this point.

?

All the instrumental sections include a tempo change? (not sure if ES counts)

Elite

All songs have an isntrumental section that's vastly different from the rest of the song and bring in new musical ideas, rather than building on previous riffs in the song.
I'm doing this without actually listening to the song, so don't hate me if I'm saying something completely wrong here :lol

wasteland

100% wrong, but I'll write this anyway:

Each song has been performed live with the inclusion of a secondary instrument played by a band member in some sections:

- ToT: Kaossilator (CiM era)
- BTL: those little plastic or ceramic things MP played during the duet with JR at Budokan
- ES: Keytar (early ADTOE era)

Pols Voice

All incorrect so far. Yeah, this is proving to be way more difficult than I expected. ;) I don't know what else to say hint-wise...

?

I like how all these overanalytic answers have been wrong :lol

The answer is kinda simple, really. You guys are too smart for this game!

wasteland

Oh my god, I came up with a seriously good one tribond! Would any of the other guys be kind enough to allow me to post it after this one gets sorted out? I promise I will be revealing it the solution within one day if nobody gets it. It's really, really good (and quite hard too :p)

Solve mine and you can post yours, no problem.

Pols Voice

One last ultra super hint: think of the entire instrumental sections instead of just parts of them.

If nobody gets it in the next couple hours, I'll post the answer.

Elite

- The instrumental sections in all songs are approximately 5 minutes long (Endless Sacrifice is a bit less)
- They start between 4:00 and 5:00 minutes into the song

Extremely close to the correct answer! None hit 5 minutes, but I'll give it to you since you said approximately.

So, the answer is: the instrumental sections (the times between vocals) are all over 4 minutes.

Your turn, or you can let wasteland go next. :)

Elite

Cool, I'll think of something soon! :)

Okay, this shouldn't be too hard:

- Metropolis Pt. 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper
- About to Crash (Reprise)
- Pull Me Under
