Thanks for the birthday present, DT :)

This one sounds a little more 8VM-ish mixed with Floyd to me. Thoughts?

"I would scream just to be heard" part sounds BEAUTIFUL!!!

nikatapi

Nice vocals by James, but i dont like JR's solo sound.

Mebert78

Definitely not the typically DT epic to end an album.  Seems like a nice tune tho!

This snippet was the hardest one, for me personally, to hear come to an end.

Anyone want to write out the lyrics? :)
This is actually James at his most comprehensible, but anyway:

"And you disappeared into the darkness,
and the darkness turned to pain, and never went away,
until all that remained was buried deep beneath the surface...

I would scream just to be heard,
as if yelling at the stars, I would..."

I didn't almost start crying before the moog came in.

DarkLord_Lalinc

This is amazing. No doubt this album's gonna be great.

The Silent Cody

Great, nice keyboard solo and the strings in the background... :) It makes me feel like I would have been on a ship or something. On some kind of quest. Cool stuff!

Zook

...Interesting... Might be the new Space-Dye Vest in terms of me not listening to it much.

Millais

damn that was quick! was just about to post this - really like the cover art on this one... Majesty logo on sharkfin = win

not sure what to think of this one yet. anyone else reminded of Blackfield's latest album?

....and isn't this teaser a day early?

austin

Lyrics!
QuoteAnd you disappeared into the darkness,
and the darkness turned to pain,
and never went away, until all that remained was buried
deep beneath the surface.

I would scream just to be heard,
as if yelling at the stars...

This album definitely sounds to me like the best one in 10 years from DT.

:lol I was just thinking, given what we've heard, that this album, form-wise, will be really similar to Awake.

2 days, if we're going by the 'every friday' thing. I hope they stay this frequent though  :)

This snippet is just plain mean.  "I would scream just to be heard, as if yelling at the stars," CUT.  That part sounds really awesome, though, from the two lines we can hear of it.  And seems likea pretty nice tune overall.

lonestar

So much potential, I love it.  HURRY UP GODDAMMIT SEPTEMBER!!!!! I like how JR ressurected Kieth Emerson's old keyboard.

Seriously Dream Theater, cut it out. I told myself I would be calm and chill about this upcoming release. I said, "Derrick, just be patient." You know what? Fuck you Dream Theater, getting my hopes up and making my peepers dance. I hate you, I wanted to have a nice day with the lady where I didn't get all assy about the new Dream Theater which in turn would get her all assy about the new Dream Theater. Sigh, I guess I asked for too much, because now all I'm going to be able to talk about is how excited I am. Thank's a lot you guys. . . . :(

DarkLord_Lalinc

The chord progression on this is amazing.

Decent.
agreed, so far.

i think it's one of those tracks which has to be heard as part of the album, not alone. it was just starting to take off at the end as well.

Harpejji

It sounds very nice to me! The artwork is also very great!

Perpetual Change

Man, this is a record for the prog-side of DT fans if there ever was one! Loving it!

Yeah that's pretty much what I was thinking. I kinda feel it might be like most PT closers; beautiful, but only works fully when closing the album.

That's what I was thinking. Have we stumbled across something we're not supposed to? :lol

I really liked Jordan's solo. This is unbelievable.

CrimsonSunrise

I can't get it to load... have hit the links from JP, JR, and DT FB pages :(

austin

DT posted a link to their Purevolume on their facebook, I followed that, found the video page there, it was embedded and from there I got the link to the video. Makes sense.

Heretic

Yeah my suspicions that this would be album of the year are pretty much confirmed now, geez.

tri.ad

This sounds very soothing, very calm, very amazing. Love it. JR's square wave solo is absolutely outstanding.
