Definately different and I really liked this. Never would have happened if the change-up never happened. I just have a feeling.
I feel this too. Not sure why.

About JR sound and solo, it sound perfect for me. From what i heard from the teaser, i wouldn't change anything. But, i know it's a matter of opinions, so for those who didn't like it, take it as it is cause you can't change it.

About the song, this really sounds like JP said in the interview, a perfect song to play in the background when credits are rolling. Perfectly placed at the end of the album. And i can relate to the lyrics even tho we have only heard 1 minute of it.

So, about the album, i think it's going to be one of their best! i'm really excited that it sounds like it's going to be very progressive.

So excited for the album

You are damn right, man...

I'm just floored, this is the most beautiful thing I have heard in a long time. Maybe I'm overreacting, but it feels like this snippet plucked a chord with my own resonance frequency. If the rest of the song is at the same level, this is going to on of be my favourite melodic DT moments.

Because MP always was saying how Dream Theater's music needed balls and I don't think he ever liked to change up the sound of the band. As much as he thought he knew what the fans wanted, I don't think he really knew what musical direction fans wanted. As you can see, these clips are getting rave reviews from fans praising the direction and how it's what they wanted from the band.

Anyways, did anyone else kind of get a Porcupine Tree vibe? The synth part or whatever kind of reminded me of Where Would We Be?

Don't initially like Jordan's sound, but it might work in the context of the whole song, so i'll give it the benefit of the doubt.

darkshade

I like it in the fact that Jordan's utilizing new sounds from his iPad (right?), the sound isn't the worst sound ever, it works in context of the music.

berrege

I like the background music from 00:23

Shumpun

This is amazing and so fresh sounding. Jordan's solo is very cool- not at all typical in terms of the lead sound and phrasing. Amazing!

GasparXR

I don't ever know what to expect when a new snippet comes out -- and I wasn't expecting one until Friday!!

I like it. It is certainly very different from anything we've ever heard from them, and the last two snippets.

ML

After everything released so far, I have to bow towards JR, the keyboard is NOT expected and safe soundwise as it's been since forever, but more towards the "not so pro, un-polished and amateurish" and that for I really like the leads I've heard so far, they've sounded surprising and not just some modern leads. Great sample musicwise also, I have to say that I'm really curious to hear the whole album, first time since years actually.

Implode

Beautiful. I can't wait to hear the whole thing.

fibreoptix

That damn unicyclist. He won't quit. :lol

I reckon in years to come, people are going to look back on this album as Rudess' best work with the band. Unless of course he takes his current sense of variety and employs it to even better effect on future albums. Which, if he does, bodes extremely well for all future DT.

Agreed to all who said this has a Porcupine Tree vibe to it. I took those statements with a pinch of salt before listening, but the resemblance is striking.

Still loving Breaking All Illusions just a little bit more, but this is damned good too.

definitely. perhaps even a Steven Wilson vibe in particular, reminded me of Blackfield's latest album SO much!

Okay, it finally played. :lol

Sounded pretty cool.  I liked the synth lead, but hopefully it never gets too wanky or any more overpowering in the rest of the song.

FYI, that's the only bit in the song. :)

That's not the only bit of the song. It's probably in the middle somewhere like the rest of the snippets we've heard. There's more to the song than this. I imagine that JR has a longer "solo" towards the end. Beautiful track. This is gonna be one album where no tracks get skipped. Been a while.

I agree with what someone said earlier. I love the variety on this album. Rockers to prog to awesome soaring ballads. Beautiful!

I just hope they don't have a snippet of every song on the album. I'd like to have something totally new when the album's released. I may be disappointed (or not) on that score though. We'll see. Can't wait for this to drop.  :corn :metal :tup

metropofreak

A few listens and this song has me hooked. Not at all what I was expecting though: just like all the other snippets!

Thanks for the birthday present, DT

Happy birthday austin!

emtee

Least favorite so far. Not feelin' it. No judgements though until the whole album and the whole song.

Um... how do you know this? You must share your ninja knowledge.

Not sure if he actually does know any more than the rest of us, but in the track by track by JP he mentions a keyboard solo in the middle with that sound, which makes it sound as though that's the only bit with it.

I believe Blob has said in another thread that he has heard the album, since he is working for the band with animations and stuff.

Setebos

Nice. Like the calmeness of the song and the fact, that it sounds truly different than what I am used to hear from DT.

VioletS16

I like this snippet the best of all of them.
I had a feeling I'd really like BTS!

metropofreak

During the keyboard solo, it sounds as if on the first beat of every bar there is a concert bass drum being played. I think it must be Mangini's e-pro drums.

wolven74

What snippets have we heard so far? We have OTBOA (whole song), BTS, BItS, BAI, am I missing any? They've got a bit over 3 weeks before the release. I'm hoping they don't have a snippet for every song. I'd really like to be surprised by something completely new.

i am fabio

That keyboard solo is absolutely stunning

senecadawg2

Sounds a bit like Disappear to me. I love it. This album is going to be incredible, I have no doubts about that.

Yep, and they're all the B's knees.

Forget the bee's knees.  I think they're the mosquitoes' ankles.

Is this the song John Petrucci wrote?

GasparXR

If the fact that all the snippets are of songs that begin with the letter 'B' is true for the next, I call BMUBMD.

I really hope the rest of the song is a little better. It sounds a bit too sissy sounding I guess you could say.   Some of the background music reminded me of Coldplay.. I hate coldplay lol...
