Perpetual Change

It reminds me of Final Fantasy 7 music. Which I love.

The Silent Cody

Final Fantasy 7, I have to get known of it ;) I don;t know, it reminds me of some kind of sailor song :)

Ultimetalhead

God damn that's incredible. Finally, we get a closing song from DT that isn't a huge epic. This will end the album perfectly, I reckon.

Anyone able to get the artwork from this snippet? I'd like it as my desktop background, but don't know how to get it.

I speak for all of DTF when I say, the artwork for this snippet is far better than the actual album artwork.

Not for me, I really like the cover art - the clouds and sky keep it open and fresh looking, which seems to also reflect the music from what weve heard and read to date. Differrent strokes for diferrent folks I guess, but probably fairly rich to speak for the entire forum..  :)

SystematicThought

That unicycle guy just keeps on getting himself in bad situations.

Let's hope everyone survives.... roar....

Yeah, I like the album cover art as well.  Both pics are basically the same. Just that one is above the clouds and one is beneath the clouds. The different moods of the art I think will reflect the different moods of the songs.

ElliottTamer

Simply beautiful... The singing is so soft and moving. (Even the imagine is pretty cool).

My current favourite FFVII theme:

I used to hang outside Midgar just to hear this little ditty.

Not really. Ayreon doesn't use Moog. Good to see it back though. If they play BTS, Imagine how much stuff JR will have...unless he just imports the moog onto his Keyboard as a patch, if its possible.

As a giant Ayreon fan I can tell that the Minimoog is used copiously on pretty much every Ayreon album, along with other analog synths.

I love the keyboard sound. :) If anything it's not moog-ey enough, I wish it was a bit more detuned, with a higher glide sound. But it has a kind of mixture of Jordan's normal style and ELP/Ayreon.

coffees for closers

Just found this interview with John P

In a new interview with Music Radar, DREAM THEATER guitarist John Petrucci stated about "Beneath The Surface", "'Beneath The Surface' is the last song we wrote for the album. We had tracked all of the drums on the other cuts, and I think we were working on keyboards. At this point, we realized that the record needed something. Everything else was very intense, so a cool-down felt right.

"With the exception of 'This Is The Life', I was writing about very heavy topics: political unrest in America, uprisings in the Middle East, ancient Persian armies, shamans. For the closing song, a lighter, more poignant lyrical message was in order, something that would reach deep into your soul in a very honest way.

"Actually, I wrote the lyrics without the music; it was before we even went into the studio. Once we started working on the song, I had a guitar part that seemed like it would work, but I ended up changing it around. There was a bit of a process with marrying the words to the music. I demoed the song and recorded it, and the guys were totally open to it.

"It's mostly acoustic, and it could exist as an acoustic/vocal song. We did put an arrangement to it. I really like the keyboard solo in the middle. We searched for just the right Moog-esque sound, picturing the lighters, or I guess cell phones, coming out in the audience. It takes it away from being a folkish ballad and makes it more GENESIS or ELP. I love it. I think it's a great way to end the record."

Thanks! I also asked for this earlier in the thread.

How big is that seagull?!

Not much digging the booklet art, this time around. Front's great, though.

The size is consistent from the artwork from the BitS snippet though, so maybe it's deliberate? Maybe the unicyclist is a toy after all? He has the same pose everytime.

And is the pigeon following the unicyclist around? so is the pigeon named Eddie?

poespas

mmmm, maybe the seagull makes the bridge between TCOT and ADTOE and do we hear the sound of seagulls at the begin of BTS instead of the record's beginning?

?

Wow, so far all the snippets have sounded very good! My expectations are growing and growing! :corn

It is the same seagull from the cover of Greatest Hit, which symbolically represented Pull Me Under on that album cover.  Obviously, this is meant to make the tie-in between Pull Me Under and On The Backs Of Angels, which is not only stucturally similar, but will be as big a hit as PMU.  Hence, we have a cross-album nugget between I&W, Greatest Hit, and ADTOE.

...not to mention the fact that   I&W was DT's second official non-live release, GH was their 11th, and ADTOE will be their 13th.  2+11+13=26.  They have been a band for 26 years.  It's all part of an elaborate plan...  :omg:

I'm totally going to reuse the 3D seagull from the GH ad for this video. You're welcome.

Which is especially special when you consider I didn't even join the forums until 2005!

I was referring to my start date, but that's okay.

Wow, the YouTube comments are ridiculous. Everyone's fighting over whether or not James was using autotune. I don't hear a damn thing to be honest, I just hear multilayering.

Dream_Theater01

Awesome!

I thought a snippet was released every Friday?  Is this one early, or will there be a new snippet tommorrow as well?

Jamesman42

I think they're gonna release them in 5 day intervals so that each song's snippet gets released before hand...every Friday only would mean that not every song will get previewed before release
