"That, so they say that, in ya know
like, Houston or something, you'd
say it's a hundred and eighty degrees,
but it's a dry heat.
In Houston they say that?
Oh, maybe not. I'm all mixed up.
Dry until they hit the swimming pool."

Seriously, why throw in a joke about the weather in such a serious/emotional song? It ruins the entire mood of the song imo. I'm fine with the other voice clips, but that one I just can't take. Imagine if all of the sudden in A Change of Seasons, it just goes to Scooby Doo voice samples, I think people would be furious... that is my rage.

(inspired by the other SDV thread)

This couldn't have gone in the other thread?
I've been meaning to make this thread for awhile, so...

Besides, I have too much hatred for that already filled thread  >:(

Nooo! I need this thread to represent my fan boy anger. There's already a discussion going on in that other thread.

YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO ME!!! I go to DTF to be happy and now THIS?!?!?! Space Dye Vest <3 is closer to me than my own mother, nobody knows me more than Space Dye Vest <3, and now your personal attacks are going out of hand!

What the others said seems likely, the "chhhhh sounds" make it sound like TV, and its beautiful and perfect and epic and your opinion is wrong.

This does make a lot of sense.

I'm not a huge fan of the sample, moreso after learning it's Conan O'Brien (don't dislike him, just can't not hear the bit without picturing him), but it's still my fave song ever.

Liberation

Either the TV option or simply showing that the person is suffering while everyone else doesn't even notice and it's all like normal for them. Kinda in a way of contrast... personally I've found the samples to be the saddest part of the song, some showing that there are people who are in an equally tough or even worse situation, and on the other hand the people who don't care.

I've never seen the samples in Space-Dye Vest as a separate entity or anything; I've always looked at them as if from the eyes of the main character, in a way of comparison. Some are kind of a parallel situation and are actually quite depressing, and some don't matter at all and only show people simply don't care.

Yeah. I always looked at it the same way they do it in The Wall.

I find no reason to hate it for that sound bite. If anything, the sound bite should help us with our Conan campaign.

Heretic

I feel like the clips add a touch of that "hopeless, loneliness, sadness" feeling that the song gives off. Like Chris said, it seems like the main character is flipping through the TV channels in utter despair whilst wallowing in self-pity.

The best part of the song is when they stop playing it.
The best part of this thread is when you never come back.

Well, since the OP had to put the idea in my head, I demand that DT make a song about Scooby Doo by the end of their careers.

This, basically. I've always interpreted it as the character (?) flipping absentmindedly through the channels. It would just be corny if every single sample was something sad and sympathetic - that doesn't properly reflect the reality, and thus doesn't reflect that life still goes on beyond the character's problems. Really, I think the inclusion of that clip makes it very much more real, and sadder.

Also I happen to like that clip on a personal level because I live in Houston. It's basically true, except for the fact that there's never anything but a humid heat here (it seems).
