Lets all just hope the rest of the song is as good. They could have easily just picked the best part of the song with the rest being weak material.

Yeah...right...

The part with the clean guitar over the pan flute reminds me of one part in The Glass Prison. Awesome teaser.  ;D

That part reminds me of The Dark Eternal Night, Constant Motion, and As I am.

It's so obvious on this part that JP is inspired by Al Di Meola, one of the greatest guitarists of all time. I keep listening to it and it just reeks of Al Di Meola.  :metal

MP is mad.

Huh?

Im just saying that with MP we would of never gotten an album like this. MP seems to be hating on DT and the new album but, it is better then anything in the past few years and those were with MP.

I&W, SFAM, SDOIT, 8VM, etc. Do you remember those albums? I could have swore MP played drums on those.

SystematicThought

I really like the production on this snippet. It sounds kind of like an indie record and sonically sounds different from what they've been doing. It's not this wall of guitar and kick drum, it's very cool and different

I really like the production as well. Although the disc click sound at :51 annoys me, but I doubt it's actually in the song.

Exactly. I'm really impressed so far with JR/JLB. Now I'm really looking forward to Far From Heaven

The skipping is kind of weird and takes you out of it. Doubt it's part of it (I hope)

People on other boards have been saying that MM's drums sound muffled. I kind of like that touch, it adds to the atmosphere of the song

When JR said this was gonna be one of DT's best albums. HE WASN'T FUCKING JOKING.

"Past few years" to quote myself. The direction MP was going in was not very awesome.

Fantastic. Having to contain my excitement and the thought that my favourite band I had pretty much given up on may be about to release something that fills me with joy and wonder. Eek!

That click sounds like cd skipping. Maybe the cd skipped during ripping.

I think that the drums sounded terrible. Like someone had replaced the drums with leather pads. The beginning and the vocal part sounded extremely compressed. When the vocals kick in they push everything else to the background and the sound becomes even more muffled than it was. Didn't like the sound on this at all.

It's a Youtube rip dude.

Groundhog

Yeah I know. It's just that even OTBOA sounds better on youtube and the mp3 of that wasn't that much better. It may be that youtube just messed up BAI more, but I am not expecting it to be that much different with better quality after OTBOA mp3.

If OTBOA sounded better on Youtube, then wouldn't it follow that BAI has more room for improvement from the Youtube version to the CD version?

While the compression on the overall thing due to Youtube was a bummer, I did like what I could gauge of the overall mix better.

EDIT:  Also, a question about the song: do I actually hear DT playing in a major mode?

Groundhog

There is two options. Either BAI was originally more compressed and sounds worse on the tube because of double compression. If it had more dynamics/breathing room it would sound better. The second option is that youtube just messed it up worse this time. If latter then yes there would be more room for improvement. But if OTOBA mp3 is as good as it can get, it is not enough. CD quality will not remedy the problems caused by the lack of dynamic range.

nikatapi

Well it might not have the dynamics of I&W or WD&DU but to me its sounds pretty good, and improved from the last 3 albums.

Groundhog

I agree with that, but then again it doesn't take much to make it better sounding than the last three.

You have a point here  :sadpanda:

BlobVanDam

Octavarium sounded good. SC was the worst, and BCASL was a bit too much, although inconsistent, with AROP being far too much, and ANTR being not as bad.

ADTOE/OTBOA sounds perfectly fine though. Really nothing to complain about.

Groundhog

"Perfectly fine"... I don't see you praising it either. Does it sound fine compared to other stuff released nowadays? Yes. Does it sound as good as it potentially could? Not by a long shot.

BlobVanDam

I said fine because I was trying to avoid you throwing a bunch of numbers at me again.
I listen to BCASL and SC and even when it sounds "fine", I can hear what the compression is chopping off the top end. I do not hear that with OTBOA. I don't care what Adobe Audition says when you look at it. I care what my ears tell me. And my ears tell me the compression is transparent enough that I do not hear anything lost. Compression is not a linear scale of sounding better/worse.
I don't believe that lowering the compression any further in this case is going to magically make it sound better, because it sounds great already. It has plenty of breathing room and space and doesn't get choked up on the heavier sections like other albums. Stop bitching about the compression and either enjoy the music or don't, especially when you're judging based on YOUTUBE audio. Wait until the album comes out, then go for it.

Sounds like DT are having fun again...wonder why?

Why in every thread does someone have to take a shot at MP?  Really dude, they didn't sound fun on The Count of Tuscany?  Give it a rest.

Back to the thread, this clip sounds great!!  Very excited to hear this whole thing.
