This is fantastic. Friday has become my new favorite day.

You're sounding a little bit like Rebecca Black there.....

Which seat shall I take.......

You're sounding a bit like Mike Portnoy there....

DT  vs  AX7

Which drum seat shall I take ?

:) it was just a joke... In response to the quoted post is all .

I can't put my finger on what it is EXACTLY about the snippet that says this to me, but the whole thing just sounds so utterly joyful. It's as if the whole band feel so alive and happy to be playing. The whole sound is really uplifting.

And of course, kudos to Rudess and LaBrie. They're really proving their worth so far on this album.

I think I know what you mean, maybe this snippet of an interview with Jordan Rudess will answer any doubts of why the new album sounds so "joyful":

Interviewer: "Many fans and reviewers have been praising the new album for its 'classic Dream Theater' and 'Progressive' feel. What inspired you to take this 'back to the roots' approach?"

Jordan Rudess: "Making this album has been a joy. The new album is certainly more melodic and fresh than the previous ones, this is due to the collaboration of a dear friend of ours, Desmond Child. We couldn't have done it without him."

I was listening to BC&SL yesterday and it has some awesome vocal melodies

Other than the end of TCoT, I personally can't think of a memorable vocal melody from BC&SL, let alone an "awesome" one.  I guess maybe that mellow section of ANtR?

-J

What are you talking about? BC&SL has some of the best vocal melodies of all time! Second only to Systematic Chaos!

"DAY AFTER DAY
AND NIGHT AFTER NIGHT
REPLAY THE EVENTS
DID THEY EVER SEE THE RED LIGHT?
OVER AND OVER
SCENE BY SCENE
LIKE A RECURRING NIGHTMARE
HAUNTED MY DREAMS"
and
"LET ME INTRODUCE!
MY BROTHER
A BEARDED GENTLEMAN
HISTORIAN
SUCKING ON HIS PIPE
DISTINGUISHED ACCENTS
MAKING ME UPTIGHT
NO ACCIDENT"

But did they ever see the red light?

John Petrucci puts Shakespeare to shame with his lyrics from that song.

The count was a bit distracted introducing us to his brother.

I'm really digging what we are getting so far.  Like others have said, it all just feels so much more natural.  Very airy and it seems like the guys are having a good time.  Specific props to jlb and jr.  Can't wait to hear this on a good stereo.

Desmond Child? I'm a bit of a noob, but if I'm not mistaken, the only thing he's ever contributed to DT is You Not Me, unless there's something else I don't know of. Does this raise any suspicions of a lolterrible song on the new album? Personally, I'm not worried and I think it'll be redemption for Mr. Child. This album looks like it's gonna be controlled a lot more by DT and less by the companies.

Am I the only one who listened to the teaser only once? It was fucking amazing, and I want to save its goodness for the album, I don't want to get tired of it in the slightest bit before its full release.

I did the same for both teasers (although I listen  to OTBOA like once every few days or so!).

Post by noxon on 5/8, in reply to somebody saying the keyboard part reminded them of Learning to Live:

Quote from: noxon, post: 2643388If that reminds you of LTL, just wait till you hear the first verse of the song.

SPOILERS

Bassgroove with drums, and some keyboard chords/pads adding ambience - it pretty much feels like a spiritual successor to LTL, even in the thematics of the lyrics...

BlobVanDam

Thematics of the lyrics? I don't know how you could tell. Who can even tell what a Myung lyric is about? :lol

Nope, I haven't listened to anything else yet. I listened to OTBOA a couple times, and BITS and BAI once each, but I'm not listening to them again until release date.

I'm not just sure that it's about AIDS, I'm HIV positive that it is.
