QuoteWhat plans do you have in mind for your next round of touring?
We have thought about the tour. The first tour we're doing is in Europe, a festival tour with some headlining dates, as well. We're playing some interesting places like Russia, Kiev, Rome, everything like that. Initially, it's us getting out there. We'll play a song from the new album, but it will be focused more on the festival scene, and people's introductions to Mike Mangini. When we tour in the fall in support of the record, we'll initiate some of the new concepts, new imagery, new lighting and video presentations, and, of course, the new songs. It'll be something different at that point.

Interesting, won't this be the first time hearing a live version of a DT song prior to its official album release?

Lots of bands do it, it'll be great to see! :D

I just thought about the album for a second. And how it's three months til release.

I want it NAO lol

BTW - The fake cover that was put up here is getting spread around via twitter as the actual cover.  Find it amusing.

???  What?  How is that not easily one of the top album titles they have ever done?  Or do you just not get the reference?

Quote from: TL on June 10, 2011, 12:30:25 PM
Pretty sure they played quite a few FII songs live, in some form or another, well before the album came out.

Yes, they did.

IIRC, New Millennium existed as some derivative form of Caught in a Web before writing for FII began.

HOW DARE YOU COME IN HERE AND DEMAND THAT I FIND SOMETHING AMUSING?

:p
Just kidding.

It's prolly in part because prog archives put it up there as the real cover early this morning. Quite amusing indeed.

Yeah, Six Degrees is one of my favorite album names by any band.

I think ADTOE is the worst album name by DT, I really dont like it.

Oh, I get the reference, and it's not a terrible name, but it is quite the mouthful for a title.

Nick

DT have played a lot of material before release, including stuff from Images (+B-side), Awake (b-side/snippet), Falling Into Infinity (many), Scenes, Six Degrees and A Rite of Passage.

emindead

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if they release the first single right before their first summer concert.

Also, the main dislike of this new album title is because we know the context behind calling like that, so the general reaction is going to be: are you kidding me? More or less when ANTR RORORORORO's scream was first heard, the majority here pointed out that we (I'll include myself) didn't like that type of harsh vocals (NO ONE DARED TO!!!) because it doesn't suit DT at all. So the reaction, again, was: Are you kidding me? We told you we don't like that style in DT.

LieLowTheWantedMan

And lol @ the cover being on progarchives. :lol They made a mistake in taking a noobs word for it that it was official. Oh well, shit happens.

The album title has grown on me, I have to say. I don't really mind it anymore.

Interesting to see how different people's reactions have been. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the title, but I don't think it's bad either. And, a couple things which keep me hopeful that it'll be better than the last two records: 1.) Myung is writing lyrics again 2.) there will be no new music related to the 12SS (not that the 12SS is bad, but it was definitely starting to feel stretched out)  3.) by extension, no tough-guy Mike Portnoy vocals and finally 4.) 9 songs, to me, means much more manageable song lengths and hopefully less "fluff" within individual songs.

"So, early in your life, what music did you listen to?"

Seriously? You're going to ask John Petrucci that trite question that nobody wants to hear him answer anymore?

Check what website did the interview, pal. Maybe you don't want to hear him answer those questions anymore, but lots of people who browse and read that site may be interested. Not everyone's a hardcore DT fan like you, mate.

That's still silly. This guy's been around for decades.

RaiseTheKnife

Bosk, Drumhead magazine is on stands now.  In the article, Mangini confirms that the upcoming European festival/tour dates will NOT feature any new material (no surprise there).

jonny108

Petrucci said in a couple of interviews now that they will be playing one song.

eosforum

Maybe they'll play the single in the second half of their european festival tour.

Are we positive Myung is writing lyrics?

I know he really collaborated with JP this time musically but I never heard that he is writing lyrics again.

Global Laziness

It was mentioned in an interview way back before we even knew about Mangini officially, I think.

Mebert (a poster here) talked with JR after a show and JR told him that Myung wrote lyrics.

The more I think about it, the more I find the title suits really well the name of the band : Dream Theater / A Dramatic turn of events. The expression is visibly figurative language, which could mean that the title is not such a direct allusion to the breakup. What if SDT 11 was built as a play, the titles being the various scenes? What do you guys think? It maybe far-fetched, I grant you that. :D

There's just one problem: they've already built an album as a play before.

For me, it was more like a movie. When i think about a "play", I think mise en abyme...Well, but you're right anyway.

So according to a post on JLB's Facebook, Lost Not Forgotten and Shaman's Trance have both leaked to Youtube. Not sure if I should post a link or not...
