I didn't read through the entire thread, but people are actually making a big deal about the album name and/or the song titles

all that matters is that the music is great, who really cares what they call it
Yeah but it's cool when You have someone to share your emotions with ;) and even it can be funny here ;)

THEY'RE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS - A THEME OR SUBJECT CAN BE INTERESTING/COMPELLING/PROVOKING BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN THE SONG TITLE(S) ARE AUTOMATICALLY GOOD.

OH MY GOD SOME PEOPLE ON HERE JUST LIKE DISAGREE, NICK PICK OR TAKE EVERYTHING OUT OF CONTEXT.

pot, kettle. no one said the title was automatically good. we said it fit the theme.

Awesome album title. INCREDIBLE song titles. Nine freaking songs, the most we had since (not including) SFAM (counting SDOIT CD 2 as one song, like most people do).

I'm gonna go ahead and quote Manny from Modern Family; "All this excitement, my heart is just going".

Good one.

My inital post had nothing to do with themes. I just mentioned a song name I didn't like and said it had no bearing to the music.

Then it was insinuated that the song title was good because it tied so well into the theme.

Congratulations on taking a simple point that was written with positive intent and making mountains out of molehills.

I love how the last section in the history section on the band's Wikipedia page is now called "The Departure of Mike Portnoy and A Dramatic Turn of Events".  :lol

Also, the album title has grown on me over the past few hours. It sounds very modern.

So far, I'm loving the titles, "On the Backs of Angels" sounds like something straight out of When Dream and Day Unite...

Oh, and their new tour should be called....

1. On the Backs of Angels - Oh my god is that a song title.  This better be a great song or it's a huge waste of a name.

This.

----------

I'm going to be honest: I really think this is going to be a concept album. The song titles seem to suggest that the concept will be something spiritual. The obvious ones are On the Backs of Angels and Far from Heaven, but we also have references to life (This is the Life), death (Lost Not Forgotten), spiritualism (The Shaman's Trance), and perhaps even hell (Beneath the Surface). I fully expect people to disagree, but I'm just raising this as a possibility.

FretMuppet

The album title reminds me of Schoenberg's Peripetie piece, which means "A Sudden change of Fortune"

i didn't make a mountain out of anything. you resorted to yelling and calling people that disagree with you "nick pickers."

moving on...

ScioPath

How much you wanna bet that the album cover art is going to be the picture of Mike Portnoy waving from the Wither video.

Ben_Jamin

The album title fits really really really well. In DT land MP leaving was a dramatic turn of events. That's the only thing I see as a MP reference, while the actual content will be hertfelt and simply amazing.

The song I'm most excited for is The Shamans Trance, what is wrong with that title? Its cool and in no way whatsoever dumb. This is the life sounds like an alright title, the weakest. But then it'll be amazing at the same time.

I feel the albums gonna be epic without being epic.

CrimsonSunrise

LOVE the album title!  Seemingly very appropriate...LOL  I REALLY think this is going to be a landmark album by DT.  Everything points too it being just awesome.  Love the "Massive world tour" part... :tup

I ja z Polski ;)

I actually like the track titles, and the album title is not that bad.

But I don't really care as long as the music is good.

Yeah, but we thought the same thing when Train of Thought's tracklisting was announced, and then again with Systematic Chaos. Both had a lot of spiritual/religious references in the titles, and I'm sure it's a similiar coincidence with ADTOE.

Fair enough. I wasn't a DT fan for the release of ToT but I was for SC and I never perceived anything like that. We'll just have to wait and see.

Jaffa

Several people have expressed the sentiment that we shouldn't really care what the titles are as long as the music is good.

Fair enough.

But we don't actually know if the music is good.  It could be great, or it could be their worst album to date.

All we can comment on is what we know, and what we know is now the album title and track listing.  So why shouldn't we talk about the album title and track listing?

I mean, what did you expect us to be talking about in a thread devoted to the announcement of titles?

Ben_Jamin

Tracks 8 and 9 are gonna be connected for sure, Breaking All Illusions Beneath The Surface.

Hmm...I wonder if BAI is gonna be an interlude IE. Wait For Sleep.

I don't think it's gonna be their worst album to date. I mean, they've said several times they have poured their hearts and souls in the making of this music. They took their time to craft something special, and I'm sure that's what it's gonna be.

I don't think it's going ot be their worst either.  I just think it's silly to expect people to focus on the quality of the music in a thread about titles before we even know the quality of the music.

I can tell (A)DTOE and TDOE is going to cause some confusion on the forums  ;D

Titles are different, but I'm sure we will get used to them. I can almost imagine this album sounding a bit like Anathema's We're Here Because We're Here (just looking at the titles). Maybe the title would be a bit cooler if it was just "A Dramatic Turn", but I am fine with what they chose. Can't wait for artwork.
