You must be that one DT fan that likes Prophets of War.

We would be so lucky if they were writing material as good as TGD.

BlackwaterPerk

Well, I really LOVE Prophets of War, as well as The Great Debate.  :D

I think this would be appropriate to include in the thread:

Just having JM lyrics would be exciting enough, but according to Jordan:

"He has just been more involved in this album than he has been in a while. To the point where he is writing some lyrics and he had a lot of riff ideas and was very excited about going forward with this new situation."

Oh speak for yourself. I love that song.

Here to back up Emindead.  The Great Debate has never really done much for me.  At times I find it borderline irritating.

Also, I had a dream about a bear on a pirate ship.  There were lamps which could potentially have held genies.  And there might have been a ninja - I didn't see any, but then, I wouldn't, so.  Does this qualify as a Dream Theater related dream?

That it's awful.

Seriously, that is a fairly unliked song.  Definitely in the lower (lowest?) echelon around here.

Awful? I have to disagree here.

Prophets of War is the best song on the album after ITPOE2, imo (and of course that godawful "rapping" part from MP). It has a great guitar riff, catchy melodies and it's also James' best performance on the album. The only "bad" thing about is the intro, imo. Yeah, the lyrics aren't the best nor particularly original on the subject and all that but they are good enough to get the point across. A fun song, good for live participation too - it's The Rite of Passage of the album.
Saying this song is awful and loving tunes like CM, TDEN, TCOT is mind-boggling to me.

Zook

Comparing PoW to CM, TDEN and TCOT is mind boggling to me.

I must have accidentally clicked myself right in to a Prophets of War thread... My computer is the weirdest.

I love Prophets of War. I think it would've made a better single, personally.

Can't wait to hear what JMX had to offer. I'm getting more and more excited by the day!

Sorry half asleep. CM, TDEN and TCOT aren't awful in any way, but CM is the weakest out of them. Prophets of War is just terrible.

Eh, my point exactly. To me those songs are just atrocious from start to finish, whereas PoW has it's flaws and it's not the best song ever, but has a nice flow with fun and catchy melodies. I'm still shocked that there are people who can stand that blatant Metallica rip off, though. Opinions - what can you do? :D

wammabe

I had a dream in which people started arguing about their opinions on Prophets of War in a ADTOE thread.

Dude... Constant Motion, The Count of Tuscany and The Dark Eternal Night is not atrocious. That's just a plainly invalid statement.

(EDIT) On topic: Still psyched for the new album  ;D

So you like PoW more than the orgasmic intro to TCoT? Singing in a James Hetfield style is not necessarily ripping off Metallica. Sure, the song screams Metallica, but at least CM doesn't rip off like 20 different bands at once. TDEN is just fun song to listen to. Maybe you like Disco, I don't know...

All right title and tracklisting! release date too! it's great to be away for a while and come back to so much news!
Anybody made a joke about how the album title would have been very convenient for MP to turn into a drum dvd? Would be disappointed if no one did.

@thePoWdiscussion:
PoW is one of my top 10 songs, Its something different, and I still don't understand what makes the song bad. Sounds like jumping the bandwagon. JLB's vocals are among his best. No solo, just a simple spoken part, the spot on feedback. Though it does has its flaws, like most other DT songs post 8VM, The MP spoken part could've been scrapped and they could've left the beautiful riffs underneath, and added an intro.

I love the song too. It's really different and creative for DT... I agree about the spoken part.

Fantastic news!  :)

mocool13

So now that we got an official confirmation of JM lyrics from Rich Wilson, how many songs are you guys expecting him to write?

My guess for the band:

JM: 2
JP: 4
JLB: 2

I think we'll have one instrumental, so that obviously takes care of 9 songs.

Do you guys think that perhaps some combination of the aforementioned writers shared credit on a song or several songs? To my knowledge it hasn't really happened recently with the exception of the SDOIT and 8VM title tracks where some sections were written by one member and other sections written by another.

BTW, I'm even more excited about JM writing riffs and being more proactive on the musical side of things.

Jamesman42

With how they are writing from what we've heard, it is very possible that there are dual lyric credits for a song (or songs).
