He's an extremely introvert and antisocial person.
Too bad they've never really evaluated whether Myung fitted the band on a personal level or not. He may not, but since Petrucci and Portnoy started the band with Myung, that has never been something to discuss.

From an outside perspective, his personality fits the band, because it avoids there being too many egos on board: Portnoy has been the manager of the band, Petrucci and Rudess the main composers.

However, I can imagine being tired of a person you don't get to socialize with much, because he constantly alienates himself and doesn't offer much support when you'd need it, sometimes it's hard when that one person does just not laugh at the same jokes. This may not neccessarily be a big thing, but may accumulate to something larger over many years.

I assume that you enjoy a lot of reality TV programs.

Based on what I've seen in the videos, I assume he spends all his free time practicing.  You never see the other guys practicing, but he's always there with his headphones on, shredding away on his bass.  I don't even think he sleeps.  He just has 8 hours of slightly less intense bass practice.

Even if JMX is seemingly more professional than personal about his involvement in Dream Theater, I'm sure he's a hell of a guy if you actually take time to get to know him. Lets face it, if he didn't go along well with the others he wouldn't have stayed for 25 years, and still counting... so nah, I wouldn't worry about him not getting along with the others.

Agreed that we don't see ALL the meals. But you have to admit that he's conspicuously absent in 99% of the videos on JR's channel. I mean, they're walking through an airport to catch a plane and he's not even there for godsakes. Does he take his own private jet? Catch a different flight so he doesn't have to sit with them? I'm being faceitous (only a little), but seriously - there are times when it just doesn't make sense for him to be absent unless he's purposely chosen to do so. Not saying there's contention between him and the other members, but it's like he exists in a totally separate world from them, which is impossible since they work together.

The "only assumes human form to play" theory is looking better and better the more video footage I see.

You know, I really hate these notions. JMX is elusive and reclusive to publicity and so we just don't know shit about what he's like. Saying that he may be the faulty link in the chain of Dream Theater is, in my opinion, extremely rude toward him, and totally undeserved. He may as well be a sensitive dude, read this, take it personally, and it may hurt the band relationships or the JMX-fans relationship. Understood.  I knew I was using my one mulligan. I had an angry reaction to what I felt was a personal attack on one of the band members themselves ("antisocial person", "he constantly alienates himself and doesn't offer much support") and am actually kinda surprised that he didn't receive an even harsher warning than I have.  Not that I didn't deserve mine on the technical merits.

Well.... JM is obviously naturally a private person, one who doesn't relish having a camera in his face 24/7 and that's understandable - not everyone wants every aspect of their life available for public consumption.  Also, he's spent a large proportion of his life around the other guys in DT - maybe space is what he needs to be able to get through life and maintain a level of happiness.  I work long shifts, and as a reason I don't spend ant time socialising with the others in work because I already see as much of them as I want to, even though they are good people.  Fuck knows what I would do if I had to live cheek by jowl with some of them for months on the road or whatever - I think I'd go batshit within days....  Anywayz... whatever he's doing, it seems to be the best thing for the band as a whole and him personally.  Long may it continue.  It takes all sorts, right?
