Myles FUCKING Kennedy! That dude has a 4 octave range! He could sing any DT song.

I wouldn't like a singer who sounds like an 80s glam rock or power metal vocalist.
And I'm sure that many of the singers mentioned already would've had trouble with the odd time signatures.

But he can't really sing anything that isn't a cheesy ballad.
He would totally blow on ToT, Awake, I&W material.

Maybe i just didn't see it, but how has nobody brought up Tony Kakko from Sonata Arctica yet? i mean holy shit this guy can sing. listen to Wolf & Raven, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pioL1uaGJ4M and tell me he isn't able to tear up DT songs. that is an astonishing vocal performance start to finish

Hitting super high notes isn't what makes someone a good fit for DT. Or else there are countless power metal vocalists who could do it.

ok then listen to Tallulah or Deathaura. it's not just about the high notes, there's so much power to his voice. he's much more than "just another power metal singer."

But I wouldn't neccessarily enjoy it.
His ability to sing DT songs is not in question here.

Sebastian Bach

I think he even said once he was friends with JLB

Perpetual Change

SB would be like getting James LaBrie again, only whereas JLB has had problems with his voice but fought to keep it as strong as possible, SB has let his lifestyle destroy his voice completely.

^Nope. Didn't even post in there. Hef certainly did though by saying the thread was doomed. Thanks for the accusation anyway.  :tup
Uhm, I clicked that link, scrolled down and you DID post there. so...yeah...

These are all ridiculously obvious choices (much like the drummers were):

Daniel Gildenlöw
Russell Allen
Jorn Lande
The guy from Circus Maximus

Hmm I really can't think of many others that aren't over 50 and could handle JLB's singing, especially the early albums.
The thing with all these singers is that they would never leave their bands, especially Gildenlöw and Russell Allen, even though I think Gildenlöw would fit like a glove.
I'm just going to recommend someone that is less known: Will Shaw, look him up, he sang for the band Athem and for my project Abodean Skye.

Myles  @#!*%  Kennedy! That dude has a 4 octave range! He could sing any DT song.
I saw him him in concert with Slash opening for Ozzy in Feb.
He may have a 4-octave range, but his high notes to me sound nasaly and weak. He may be a great all around singer, but I mean, on the high notes of "Starlight", live, it sounds like crap to me. Honestly. :(

elmatto

I always wondered how Johnny Gioeli would sound...but I know for a fact he would be a bad fit. He's mainly just a pure rock act.

LOL first two made me some chills on my neck... I just imagine Rob Flynn singing The Answer Lies Within or Take Away My Pain :2metal:

it could work!! i would love to hear the DT metal songs with a metal/aggresive voice just for once to hear it and than get back to JLB.
