Not everyone suspected it.  Tons of people threw things around about Thomas Lang, whateverhisnamewas Priester, and a little John Macaluso. Also, some people still thought it was CharlieZ, there was the MP's coming back conspiracy theory, and the DT hasn't actually found a drummer conspiracy theory.
Those names were thrown around a lot earlier, but Mangini's been the one that has made the most sense for quite some time now.

At first my reaction was "NOOO!!!" And then... I settled down, read some of the comments, sifted through some pics and vids of Mangini and then said to myself, "Wait a minute... This could be interesting". But it's also left a bit of a sour feeling in my stomach. Not because of the fact that this may be true, but it sort of crystallizes the fact Portnoy is gone, DT is moving into truly uncharted waters and anything can happen that us fans haven't considered the future music of DT. I think it's due to the fact that I loved Dream Theater as they were for so many years and got accustom to expecting new things from that specific lineup. However, change is here and this headline was a brick to the face for me.

Whether Mangini is the new drummer, or it is someone else, the feeling I'm ultimately left with now as I type this sentence is "Man, I'm excited and I feel an announcement is certainly coming right around the corner any day now."

I can't wait to hear the new album and give it a few good listens before I decide if I like the new drummer, or the bands direction or not.

P.S. I have a funny feeling it's gonna be awesome.

If it is indeed true, Eddie Trunk's move was done on purpose. Being as he is the friend of MP, I cannot see any chance announcement there. MP's vengeance? :biggrin:

From MP to MM... well it'll be interesting to see how the band handles this "news"... I expect a tweet from JR in the morning about it, and perhaps even CJS as well.

Time for me to sleep... it's 4:20am and I'm pretty crazy for being up so late... Good night! I'm sure this will be 10 pages long next time I post in it...

Im not trying to lead anyone into false info But I check here and everywhere else on the net to see if this has been announced yet ( Who the new Drummer is) and the one day i Don't check a friend messages me and asks has Mangini been announces yet this came out of the blue from an old friend that does have ties in the music buisness so take this for what you want .
I have to be honest he wasn't my first pick but he is very talented and Defiantly has his own style for sure this could be very interesting

Very interesting developments. Blabbermouth are only reporting what Eddie Trunk tweeted. Usually they're the 2nd link in the chain (after the original source), but this time they're the 3rd link. We'll just have to wait and see.

Well, according to the Blabbermouth link, Mangini is the fastest drummer in 4 categories.  I would say "Whoopty shit, you can play fast, but will you hold my interest at all?", but then I remembered that in World Domination Mode, JP can play over 4,000,000 notes per second, so maybe we're on the verge of having the world's fastest band now?

It seems A LITTLE BIT wrong for Eddie to spew out this unofficial info, but whatever. I am familiar with Mangini from Extreme, and solo James. He seems solid, but he is no Portnoy. I guess I will judge him by what he does with DT, and give him a fair chance.

Eh, aside from having connections everywhere in the music world? Sure, he's just like any other guy  ;D

Eddie is a true professional. Is he an insider? No. But is he just some jackass who'd go promoting rumors he knew he didn't have any good basis or good reason to be told? No, I wouldn't believe that about him for a second!

I politely disagree. Eddie Trunk knows many people in the industry, unlike us shmucks in the Place Your Bets thread. It had to leak eventually. But hey, it's not official yet.  ;)
