Just to let you know, I had a dream last night from which I learnt one thing: the album will be released in Europe on 29th July, in the UK on 1st August, and in the US on 2nd August.

You heard it here first.

Ill take your word for it!

Yes, who indeed was the percussive instrument consisting of a hollow cylindar?

Well the dates seem to fit. I think we've solved it.

Very good sign indeed. :) I'm hoping for very little shred on this album, I think the past six albums have had enough for a while.

I agree. More heart, less exhaustion. I'm sure we will get both though. Balance is the key.

However if we get 0 shred keyboard solos, I will be very happy.

Haha What...are we having a mind meld here?

I want keyboard shredding, just not the kind that includes pitch bends.

Maybe it's just JRs key shreds. I really enjoy Matt Guillory's Keyboard solo's, he's quite a lovely writer.

Eh, I don't care for a lot of his solos either. I've had enough of this "keyboardists trying to sound like guitarists" stuff.

You don't care for that? I think it's amazing. :) But it's ok to disagree.

I actually like JR's piano and organ and Moog solo stuff quite a bit. The classic example I always give people is the solo spot in Blind Faith or Honor They Father. That stuff sounds great to me.

I just don't like it when he plays keyboard like a guitar. That just does nothing for me. I didn't like how Derek would do the same thing, either.

That's actually a pretty good example of what I don't like about his solos. In my opinion, a guitarist's take on that solo would sound a lot better. It's not the writing itself that I don't like. It's that he writes things that would sound better on a guitar and then plays them on a keyboard.

Perpetual Change

Yeah, if he's gonna do a synth solo, I'd prefer he do something that sounds like a synth solo rather than a synth guitar solo. Like this:

Interesting tweet from the Wizard : "Sitting in the control room listening to John play the most amazing Clapton inspired lead!". Bluesy did you say? Me take!

This is what Rena said in reply: Are you sure it's Clapton inspired? I find that highly unlikely, lol!  I'm thinking he should get a good nights sleep and start again in the morning, lol. Sorry Jordan I can't help myself.   :lol

theusualmadness

Maybe they will have more bluesy stuff on this album. Jordan and Marco played a bunch of bluesy music during MMM.

I want myung to shred this album to pieces
This. The last time he really went hog-wild was on Scenes, and that's been almost 12 years. I don't care if it sounds like unorganized wankery, I wanna hear Myung tear that Bongo 6-string a new one.

Ben_Jamin

I want James to be able to freely play with the vocal melodies. Like in Ayreon, have the main guide melodies while he can sing them his way...the way they did vocals seemed like it had to be this way, which got him frustrated.

Aniland

Since Portnoy was the one who had a tight control over LaBrie's way of singing, I think it's impossible for him to NOT have that.^

Ben_Jamin

Yeah, you could tell he was having a hard time on the Systematic Chaos dvd. But on The Human Equation u could tell he was having fun.

Wow, I just listened to Day Twenty - Confrontation from Ayreon. James' last line is FUCKING FANTASTIC (excuse my French)! The final note is absolutely perfect, reminds me of total I&W-Awake era singing. The vibrato is excellent.
I really hope we hear something like this on DT11

I have a feeling its gonna be a mix between FII, Scenes and Awake.

JasonScandopolous

Prediction:  There will be a new song called "Rebirth", and JMX lays down the sickest bass lines, solos, etc., of his career.  Both of those not necessarily the same song.
