Probably my least favorite song on Awake, but I still like it a lot. Not the biggest fan of the chorus for some reason but that's probably my only main criticism of the song.

That's actually my favorite part of the song. Great song.

Awesome, bro!  Glad you enjoy it.  It's just one of the few things of theirs that doesn't do much for me.  Except for the outro, which is one my favorite things of theirs.

Other than 6:00 and Erotomania I didn't really care for Awake.  IF had way too much 'screaming', IMO.  I'm not a huge JLB fan, but when he actually sings he's pretty good.  The screaming, though, is like nails on a chalkboard.  Awake also had the 'fake' sounding snare that makes me cringe every time I hear it.

It's a great song in its own right, but it also gets points for adding to the diversity of Awake with its soaring, happy vibe.  Interesting that the lyrics don't match the soaring nature of the song; pretty cool contrast, actually, now that I think about it.

I think it's perfectly placed: a great turn to take after the heaviness of CIAW, and the instrumental outro prepares the way for "Erotomania."

I don't hate it, just not a great DT song. This and CIAW were the reason I struggled to get into Awake when it first came out. didn't like either of them, so 2 out of the first three tracks were a bit meh.
I don't tend to skip them these days but there was a ttime I would.

Then just listen to the Score version, and you'll be cured.  Better than then the original.  It doesn't even have "the faithful liver wing", although it does still have "what is if time disappears" IIRC
