Rush has very special videos, sort-of funny involving band members. Exactly the following DT tour after which Rush started doing them, DT had very similar videos. I remember all my friends saying "yeah, they tried to copy the Rush videos", so I'm not the only one thinking that.

rumborak

Ah ok, I wasn't aware of that.

Still, there are only, what, two DT songs that have funny cartoony videos. The rest are normal videos (which they've been doing for a while, certainly since I first saw them back on the ToT tour in 2004) like many bands have.

You could really point to a lot of what DT does that's inspired by Rush. AS long as DT doesn't bust out The Count and the 3-D glasses, I'm good!
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Stadler on February 08, 2025, 12:49:43 PMI wouldn't argue this.

A few radioactive turtles and a dead, genius Renaissance man makes for an odd combination. But hey, MP left the band, anything is up for grabs
:lol But you forgot LEONARDO Da Vinci

No, I forgot Donatello :D

STEVETHEATER

Here's my attempt on the new DT cover.
Never made a cover that has less than 10 psd layers.  ;)
I thought ''eleven'' was a cool word, being the 11th studio album.
The heart is a little reference to the I&W cover... where it all began, well sort off.

It's pretty cool, Steve! Although it feels like something Porcupine Tree (Lasse Hoile cough cough) would do IMO.

On the other hand, I think it's quite superior to this "pseudo-animated" thing DT has had for quite some time in their album covers.

Thanks, yeah I know... Lasse Hoile also came to my mind when I was making this.
Oh well, even if you don't want to copy somebody you'll always find out that everything has been done before.

Yeah, I think so. Your art is fantastic, however! I think this type of art suites DT much more than the "OK, let's put something that resembles every song in the album on the cover!"

The Letter M

Steve- that's amazing, although I have to wonder if artwork "nuggets" will still be used considering most of that was probably MP's idea because I was looking at your cover and wondered... what if the man had 11 fingers in the silhouette (or at least six on the one full hand being shown, implying 11 fingers)... or he held up a peace sign that looked like two 1's.

I do like it a lot though, and did remind me a lot of PT's covers by Lasse. I think something like that would be a welcomed changed from DT's usual...whether or not the new art contains DT's trademark logo and font doesn't bother me TOO much, just as long as it looks good and represents the feel of the album in some manner.

Cool cover! It would be interesting to see a DT album with a cover like this.
I would like to see that with the traditional DT font.

Global Laziness

Yeah, I definitely see Porcupine Tree in there, but hey, it could work!

chrisbDTM

i would definitely be alright with the album being called 'eleven' or 11. pretty cool

nice work steve

No shit, Sherlock. I don't think they'll put the new album into some leftover 6DOIT sleeves.

Actually, you'd think if they ever did such a cobbling-together of previous album artwork, it would be for a compilation, but their only compilation released had NEW artwork on it!

The only things I've seen with old artwork put together have been the 20th Anniversary Tour poster/t-shirt, and the 25th Anniversary Tour poster/t-shirt. I own the poster, and it's really nice! I got a cheap frame for it at Wal*Mart and it hangs on my wall proudly!

Perpetual Change

I really regret not buying that shirt. Seemed awesome.

The Count part two, inspired by The Human Centipede?

Mladen

The new Dream Theater album should be called either Eleven or The Best Them. And I have no problem with that cover, as long as music rules.  ;D

This pic in another thread inspired me to spend 30 seconds in photoshop.

OR

No where near as creative as Steve's but all the same I'd like to see a more 'Modern' and simple DT cover in the vein of Steve's idea, or 8V.

MajorMatt

Oh bugger! :lol

I'll try and sort it now.

EDIT: Moved them to photobucket, should be sorted now. Nothing special, just adding text to a nice graphic I found in another thread :)

Zydar

Ah cool! Reminds me a little of PULSE by Pink Floyd (although less busy).

love it! Although I would fill the rest of the black area with sky.
Something really bold and mature would be awesome for the next album cover.

Mladen

Nice to see some artists around here delivering some work. I hope to see some more covers, and I'm starting to love the idea of the new album being simply called Eleven.

this looked very familiar to me, and sure enough............

That movie title can also work as a song title for their drummer auditioning process ;D

I love that pic, for serious. If it were human, I'd do a lot of unspeakable things to her (or it?).

Not knocking Steve's Art. I actually love it to death. Just proving a point with T-Ski.

They need to get H.R. Giger to do the cover art.

I have to say that while I can appreciate his talent, his subject matter is too much of a demonic/matrix(esque)/death/torture type of art for either my taste or what I believe to be DT's taste.  I have heard rumor that JMx is a Christian and if so I don't really see him supporting mechanical sex demons oln the front cover.   :lol

rumborak

I also don't understand why it has to be a big known artist doing it. If anything I would appreciate a cover art that is *not* reminiscient of other things.

You know what would be also an outrageous move? Actually showing the members of the band on the cover. Abbey Road, The Miracle, But Seriously, all epic albums with the artist on the front.

rumborak

Ħ

That would be crazy.  A self-titled album with just the five of them standing there.  What a slap to the face that would be to Portnoy.
