Jordan's playing on this is phenominal.  James was awesome, but I was thoroughly disappointed that he didn't sing the last verse of Spirit Carries On (after the solo) high, like he normally does.  Very anti-climactic, in my opinion, especially after the amazing piano solo.  Otherwise, great!

It sounds like Jordan changed the key around a little. I'm not sure.

SnakeEyes

Yeah, it did sound a little higher, didn't it?  Now that you mention it.  Hmmmmm

yeshaberto

It sounds to me like after the solo Jordan plays some chords which are very different from the normal chords played which cue James back in. James sings a completely different melody as a result-- one that's based on those improvised chords rather than the normal ones. What I'm wondering is whether those chords threw him off or whether he just felt like singing it differently.

I think TJ should win member of the month for posting these

oh i did. She recorded it on her iPhone and i wasn't sure how it was going to come out in the dark. When we got home i imported it and streamed it over to the apple tv to see how it came it in hi res. I noticed the camera wasn't shaky. I tend to do that with video. I told her...

You're awesome it's really steady and looks great. She said.. "Yeah, i know" LOL

The blues jam intro is awesome, especially James' comments after it. :lol I love it how the DT members seems fully aware of everything we talk about in the forums. Like JP referencing the adam02 videos. (Was that his name?)

SDV is really cool, though I have to admit I prefer the original.

TSCO on the other han...magical! :metal As opposed to someone else here, I find the last chorus great! He does change it around a bit, but in a way that really suits that version and the atmosphere.

Mladen

Great videos, thanks a lot. Truly a monumental performance.  :tup

What did James say, at 0:55, ''Kevin came in and said...what?''

Zorander

"kevin came in and sang underneath me*" Sang underneath the original vocal lines i assume

Mladen

That's weird, I can't hear it on the album. The version with Kevin singing backing vocals probably didn't end up on Awake.

Yeah, it did.  That's what he is talking about.

We're talking Dream Theater here. Whether the guys give an under average performance or a good one doesn't matter, because the level of commentary and criticism always stays the same.

Thank you for uploading the video. I really enjoyed SDV.

What struck me the most are James' comments about Kevin. It's a nice change of tone of hearing DT (well James) talk about him on his talents,etc..than why he doesn't want to do anniversary shows . I wouldn't be surprised if some members of the band had a different opinion on Kevin.

If nothing else... one thing I've decided is that they should definitely let James speak more. The man's got phenomenal stage presence - a really funny, charismatic bloke - but he's barely said a word over the last two tours. It's usually "Right we've got a lot of fucking stuff to get through so let's hurry the fuck on, this one's off AN ALBUM" and that's about it. He's a good laugh though, would be good to hear a couple more pauses.

Uck. God I'm getting old. "Screw the rock music, where are the Alan Bennett monologues?"

Yeah I just went back and listened to it again, you can definately hear the unison vocals.  it is VERY close to the same sound as James' voice so it almost sounds like they double tracked James.  Cool stuff really, I never noticed it before, I imagine I subconciously thought like james did that it was always just an effect or double trackd vocals ;D

Wow both of those are very good. James was not kidding when he said on his forum that his "pipes" were feeling better than ever. He was very very good on SDV.

OptionalPlayer

Tjanuranus, that was awesome. Thank you and your wife for helping make DT history.

As for SDV, it was definitely faster. But man, that song was gorgeously played.

The ending, where Jordan built up the mood of the song - then paused it - and played the outro. . . . wow. That was a brilliant rendition of SDV. I can't get over how good it was.

This is a new day for Dream Theater.

Zydar

Thanks, I'll listen to these when I get home from work :tup

Edan the Man

James is sounding really great! I wish I could've been there, but these videos are the next best thing, thanks a bunch.

Mladen

By the way, they played Space-dye vest and The Spirit caries on - what was the third song?
