Nah, I think it became a nickname for him from his forum.  We've started to adapt it recently since thats how James has been referring to himself at the end of posts and stuff now.

"There is special providence in the fall of a sparrow" is taken from hamlet, the quotation itself being based on the Gospel according to St Matthew. I seem to remember PMU is based on Hamlet, but I may be wrong (I'm kinda old, ya know... )
