The four of them should sit there like the American Idol judges. How freaking intimidating would that be?

Anyone here watch Chopped on Food Network?  Half the time, the judges just sit there completely stone faced so that you can't read them at all, and just ask questions that completely throw you off your game.  It would be hilarious if they totally played it that way during the drum auditions.  Just sit there expressionless during the audition, and then ask questions like, "So, do you really think that was the winning audition you just played for us?"

I have never seen the show but we work on it at my work.

Haha, yes.

I wonder if we'll get any kinds of updates, obviously anything specific is doubtful, but they could say how many people have gone or what they've thought so far.

Anybody here trying out?

And one of the band members should function as the "host" like on those cooking shows and randomly interview the drummers in the middle of their performances:

"Oh, that's an interesting pattern you're playing there; what time signature is that?"

"Curious to see you employ a blast-beat during that section; can you tell us more?"

auditions are closed/invite only, and they have 7 "world class drummers" coming in...

Cool Chris

Is this now the official 'drum audition thread?'

Maybe this goes without saying, but I hope the guys aren't 100% focused on the drumming and take in to account interpersonal relationships, ideas about music, professional goals, and everything else not particularly related to how well they can play. If this is a permanent replacement and not a temp gig, they're going to be with this new guy for hopefully several more albums and tours, and they'll need to make sure he is a good fit all the way around, not just behind the drum kit.
Maybe the grass is greener on the other side because you're not over there fucking it up.

Actually, JLB was pretty clear in his interview with what the band was looking for.

Really? How so? Chopped is a great show.

Really? How so? Chopped is a great show.

We do the audio mixing here.  We might do color correction as well, but if we do its done at our other office as far as I know.  I've done minimal prep work for the show, like getting the sessions prepared for the mixers and whatnot.  I handle more of the video side of things here, so I don't know all too much about it.

Really hoping for Virgil Donati. Just 'cause it'd stick out of the list of names like a sore thumb. Virgil sounds like the name of an eldritch biblical abomination.

John, John, James, Jordan, and VIRGIL: DESTROYER OF SOULS.

lol

also I'd love for Virgil to be a member :metal

...yeah, that too! The man's a phenomenal drummer. He's one of the most respected in the genre, he's overflowing with creativity, totally up to the job, and he's got about the right personality too. And on top of that he's not really got a major full-time gig right now. I'd be surprised if he weren't one of the seven. Geography aside, he seems ideal.

Plus! VIRGIL: EXTINGUISHER OF HOPE.

Virgil would easily be a logical choice.  Amazing, underrated drummer.

The problem is that I can't picture him staying with one band only. Besides, I don't know if his "main" style would really suit DT.

I hope one of the 7 auditioning is Jordan's left hand

I think if the opportunity came up he would be into it.  He's very diverse but the bands he has been with he puts a few albums out with them, i.e. Ring of Fire, Planet X, Southern Sons.

Also, he's very versitile, I think he could suit any style.  Check out the three albums he did with Southern Sons, not his style at all, but his drumming is solid and impressive.

TheCor

Holy shit, Virgil's trying out?  I hope he gets the job, he's one of my favorite all time drummers. I just about shit my pants during his drum solo on Vai's dvd, it's ridiculous.   I didn't even think of him as a possible replacement for Mike, but yeah, that would kick ass.   :metal

We don't have any information on that. But I wouldn't think of it as impossible, to be honest.

Yeah, no one's been confirmed, but I think that JLB refusing to say whether Macaluso was or not was basically confirming that he WAS.

I agree completely. Too much emphasis on the guy on the part of James if he wasn't 1 of the 7 drummers.
