John Petrucci is great!

This thread rules!

Thanks!  :tup

So much respect for JP answering questions at a time like this.  I'm sure he's going through a lot personally.   :tup :tup

Now we just need Myung to comment, here is James's comment on his forum.

Hi Everyone,

Thought I would give you time to digest the news of Mike's departure. MIke stated that he was burnt out with the DT world and needed a break. We have to respect where he is at and where this will lead him at this particular point in time. With that being said, we are more than pumped to continue the legacy of DT and jump full on into the next chapter. Rest assured it will be great. You can count on it.

On another positive note. Matt and I are psyched with the reaction and reviews 'Static Impulse is receiving around the world. We can't wait until everyone can get their hands on the complete disc. and hear it the way it was intended.
I will be around more often to see how you're all doing and to fill you with any and all news. Take care and not long now until the 27th or 28th depending on where you live.

Kick it up a notch,

James

Looking forward to that JLB solo album.

MykeHavoc

I'm kind of overwhelmed. The guys are going through great lengths to connect with us and put any worries we may have to rest. I feel renewed in my appreciation for the band now.

KevShmev

JP is awesome.  He has never struck me as anything but a cool guy, and this just reinforces that belief. :tup :tup

As much as I dislike the fact that MP has left, I think I am even more excited for the new album.

Wow, my respect for JP just went up a few notches. It's amazing how he handles this situation. Major props. :tup

EDIT: My resulting laughter was loud enough to wake and startle all three of my dogs, cause them to bark, and wake up the rest of my family. Well done indeed. :lol

yeshaberto

nice, thanks for passing along.

as insanely tough as this is on all of us, I can't imagine how hard it must be on all of them (MP included)

Quadrochosis

This is pretty cool of John to do something like that, props to him.

ReaPsTA

I feel a little more excited about Petrucci Theater.

TTTSTA

I feel like John's posting is like when your Teacher trys to comfort you when the Gym Teacher dies in Elementry school and you don't know how to handle it. It's like "If you need anything i am here for you" Yet, you don't trust him cause he has never been there before!

He was a gentleman.

Hey bösk, you see? That's what I was saying in the main topic, we needed this kind of answers to stop all the shit coming.

Anyone else get the impression that Petrucci is kind of.... excited.... about something?  Like, he knows he's going to have more control or something?  I mean, in ten years of reading these forums (including HIS OWN forum), I think that's the most I've ever seen him post.

Either way - this kind of confirms what I said the other day - this isn't a "sad" thing, it's a fresh new start for DT.  This is the first time I've looked forward to a new DT album in nearly ten years.  SFAM was probably the last one.... so, actually over ten years.

Yes, he seems excited. And it's normal, We all have seen that the same happened with other musicians that get more control of the band when the mainman decided to leave. Completely normal, and good.

Dude, bosk and I totally agreed with you that it would be GOOD for the band members to speak out their thoughts on what has happened, but you were implying that they had some obligation to do so, which we felt was ridiculous. JP didn't have to do this at all, but I think it's great that he did.

And honestly, this thread has cheered me up no end. Not just because of some of the specific news, but it also completely reinforces my belief that MP was not a douche about it, that the split was perfectly amicable, and that some of the things we are hearing from Mike (like that Twitter post) are purely due to being upset and maybe a little bitter right now, but not due to any long-lasting resentment or personal issues with his ex bandmates. Which I'm really really glad about.

Dude, you felt that ridiculous? wow, I think you are going too far. I mean, the obligation is always there, cause they are a band with tons of fans and they have to calm down the rumours, they have the obligation but not because we are gonna force them to do it, mainly because they know it's better. They have their obligations with the fans, cause they love the fans and they know that we are the most important for their band. Do not take "obligation" as a: "YOU TELL US SOMETHING OR I KILL YOU!!" . Anyway i didn't say that word, I said.:

QuoteI think the band should make an statement soon, a good one. They have to explain their plans. I supose they knew all this about MP in these past months and this is not new for them, so I hope they were thinking about DT without MP since some weeks ago.

I don't see a single offense in my words. This is the best they can do, just answer some basic questions and let the fans be calmed and wait for the new material, that's all. We (well, at least me) don't need more. It's all clear now, at least, regarding the future of the band.

Can't speak for bosk, but for me it was the bolded part. Your first sentence was fine (and I'm sure many of us agreed) but it sounded like you were essentially demanding that they explain their plans, which of course it makes sense for them to do, but they don't have to do anything. However, it sounds like we actually agree that it was just a misunderstanding due to the wording. :tup

I wonder if Mike will drum on JP's solo album like he did on the first one.  And play live as well.

I think he will. Well I hope he will anyway. It's practically a side project that he's got no creative control over so it wouldn't be that taxing, and it's not like they've fallen out.

Edit: Apparently Mike didn't play the studio drums  I didn't know that, after seeing him with JP live (G3 i think) I put 2 and 2 together and made... 58
