I think BC&SL is a good album to end this MP chapter with, and I'm looking forward to the new album regardless of who's drumming. These guys are so talented, nothing holds them back from creating great music and putting on great shows. Nonetheless, in a way I hope MP will return at some point in the future. Could be epic.

QuoteQ: In regards to the future of Dream Theater, I am wondering if you and the rest of the band would be in support of John Myung contributing lyrics again. Though there is already so much to be excited about in regard to DT's future, I think everyone would be excited to hear something from the man who seldom speaks.

JP: Unsure about JM's lyrics. He hasn't expressed anything.

"I love producing but it could be nice to get a fresh perspective as well."

Very excited that it's a possibility again.

Other bands in this situation could have given off the impression that they are continuing on as a challenge to themselves that they can survive the departure of a founding/important member. And maybe even a little out of spite.

I admire the professionalism JP and the band are taking with their approach of 'We are continuing on because we love making music and working together, and we don't want our musical journey to end yet...'
This should be taught as a lecture. "Difficult Transitions 101." It doesn't seem like a chore, the way they're dealing with it. I'm amazed at the amount of optimism. A major founding member has left and yet a lot of people are completely pumped. Ace.

I think you just named the next release.
Even better; with such sad news coupled with such an optimistic vision of the future, a very fitting name for the next album would be Black Clouds and Si...
Oh, wait...
:lol Thanks guys. I've had undoubtedly the worst day of my life today, but despite that these two posts in combination genuinely made me laugh. So thank you.

Quote from: John PetrucciI read through all the comments on dreamtheaterforums.org and again, I'm absolutely blown away. Feeling a lot of love right now as Luke would say!
Thank you so much. You guys are inspiring to say the least.
Yay! Love the Trooch.

(Also, good vibes your way, Rich!)

JP acknowledges and approves our existance. My life has a meaning once again  :heart

That's awesome! It's great to see Petrucci doing this for the fans. Lots of respect. His responses are getting me pumped about the next album.

I take my hat off to JP. We love the bear!

LieLowTheWantedMan

Woo! Petrucci for prime minister!

Portrucci

Yeah my respect for JP just went up quite a few notches. Very kind of him to answer all those questions on his forums. I think DT will quite easily continue successfully with him at the helm.

FUCK YEAH PETRUCCI KNOWS I EXIST

Gorille85

I believe that your real existence begin only when John Petrucci approves it. Before that you barely try to survive in a very shallow way.

I'm quite enamored that JMX has become the Black Bolt of the DT universe... should he EVER speak, thousands may go deaf.

-Marc.
I'm just glad I got the reference, after being out of comics collecting for over 10 years.

Me and you both, hef. LOL.

On a side note, unfortunately, I can't register for JP's forum, it was disabled. Must be flooded. Hope it opens up soon.

JP - thanks for opening the line of communication. best wishes to you and the band. I look forward to hearing what you guys come up with!  :metal

Black Bolt is the leader of the Inhumans in the Marvel Universe.  He is pretty much voluntarily silent all the time, because when he opens his mouth, cities fall over, or something.

BTW, awesome that JP replied.  You've got our support man.  Thanks for everything thus far, and we can't wait to see what happens next!
Quote from: BlobVanDam on December 11, 2014, 08:19:46 PMHef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

perfey

Yeah its great that he feels the support from the fans, I think its really important in times like these.

I know they make more money from touring but I wouldn't mind if they put out more original material and skipped the live shows.  MP has to come back after a while because "Raw dogs" is hardly the type of song that should be known as his last DT contribution.  I think it was quite uninspired.

Just think of it as The Count of Tuscany being the final physically released DT song to feature Mike.

How does that fool stay so humble when everyone worships him?  The man has no critics.

Petrucci, you are the greatest man alive.

My younger brother and a friend of his met Petrucci shortly after Awake came out at a local music store, and when my brother complimented him on how much he loved his playing in "Erotomania," Petrucci was very gracious about it.  He seemed genuinely pleased and humbled that a fan was that complimentary of his work. :tup :tup

It's a video game song.  It needs to work in the context of the game, not necessarily as standalone.  Lots of video game music works great in games but not so much alone.  That's what they were hired to do, not release a single for us.  It's unfair to judge their writing on the song outside of that context, which I think a lot of people do around here.

Sigz

It's not a video game song. It wasn't part of the game, and the only connection is that it was supposed to be 'inspired' by the game and its setting.

And that it's only released on that games soundtrack.

Did they know that when they were writing it, though?
