It's nice to see him finally getting some recognition which he deserves. So visit this site and vote nao!  :P

Geddy's been far too consitent for far too long.

SlickSy

Yeah, it was really hard choosing between John and Geddy.

Jarlaxle

Not for me. Geddy's bass lines represent a lot of Rush songs to me. This was a no-brainer.

skydivingninja

Geddy.  Easy choice.  Very shocked that JM is winning with 34% of the votes, considering he's barely audible on the last two albums, and there haven't been enough interesting basslines for him since 6DoiT, with the exception of a few songs.

tri.ad

It has to be Geddy Lee. JM has had far too few "OMG YES!" moments since TOT, while Geddy delivers time and time again.

Definitely

Nobody's saying that he's a bad bass player (clearly he's not), or that he doesn't deserve recognition, but compared to Geddy he really stands no chance

How does Victor Wooten only have 3% of the vote?

I don't know... I was baffled by that as well.

In The Name Of Rudess

I think only including rock bassists in the poll is a bit weird. There are quite a few jazz bassists who could destroy everyone on that list both in influence on music in general and technical ability (except for Myung maybe). I voted for Geddy Lee, but the best bass players aren't in this poll.

Jaco and Victor Wooten are on that list, both with an embarrassing amount of the votes.  I'm also wondering where Tal Wilkenfeld and Marcus Miller are.

Because everyone voted for JMX or Geddy Lee?

I guess that depends largely on who you talk to and know. I know quite a few bassists and jazz musicians who know and love Victor and his playing. If you guys haven't heard of him, check him out on YouTube, particularly any of his "Amazing Grace" solos (especially the one from Live At The Quick).

Yeah a ton of bassists I know adore and respect Wooten. I guess a lot of people are just voting for the bassist of their favorite band with this poll. Not that Myung is anything below great it's just that a) he hasn't done anything fantastic in awhile though he was incredible for the first 10 or so years of DT and b) there are clearly more talented and consistent bassists listed.

Jarlaxle

I have watched a lot of his videos on YouTube, and his playing skills are pretty sick. But when I think of "best_______" (guitarist, drummer, bassist) I think of how the said person's skills are used in songs, and if they work well with the overall prototype of that band, which is where Geddy crushes everybody.

zxlkho

I voted JM just because I love DT so much and I saw the link on their facebook page... But my top 3 probably would have been: Steve Harris, Geddy Lee, and then John Myung.

KevShmev

Myung is great, but no way should he finish above Geddy Lee, Chris Squire, Tony Levin, Victor Wooten, John Paul Jones, Les Claypool or John Entwistle.

orcus116

John Paul Jones never really struck me as that fantastic of a bassist. In terms of similarity Entwhistle played way more creative and interesting stuff.

JayOctavarium

went with JMX...

gotta show my love

even though Entwistle, Mr geddy lee, and Victor Wooten (I met that badass mofo...) are up there too

JMX still got the vote

rumborak

Geddy, no doubt.

Looking at the replies in this thread, how in hell did JM get that many votes then?

It was posted on DT's facebook page. The majority of people who voted probably came from that.

Also - where is Pete Trewavas?!

-Marc.

Exactly what I was thinking! Well since he wasn't there, Myung gets my vote.

Nick

While Myung might have a slight edge on Lee in technical proficiency, Lee more than makes up for that in his technique and songwriting abilities.

wasp2020

Surprised Lee isn't winning. JMX isn't all that amazing, at least lately.

Mladen

I went with Myung, just because I want to see what he has to say if he wins. But if I had known that he's already winning, I would have probably voted for Les Claypool or Steve Harris. A whole bunch of great bass players in there, although I'm surprised Tony Levin isn't in there.

Martinman300

I think myung can probably play anything you could throw at him, and he seems to be constantly practising. so even if he isnt that creative hes still a bass monster.

THIS.

Seventh Son

I do not see Geezer Butler on this list. I am disappoint. Sure, not the most technical bassist, but he and Iommi are probably my favorite Guitarist/Bassist duo ever, and I doubt classic Sabbath would be as good without Butler laying down his sick bass lines.

Ummmm, THIS, with one edit for myself.
