For any bassists out there, I was wondering what you thought about John Myung's bass tone on WDADU. I dig it to some extent, but it's very odd sounding. In addition, what do you think of his tone on the rest of DT material?

Adami

I think Awake had his best tone. The rest just seem too....I dunno, they lack punch.

Sigz

in b4 'DT has a bassist?'

I like it on WDADU.

ZBomber

His bass tone as of recently is pretty dry on the newer albums... I personally like his tone on WDADU.

SystematicThought

I like the tone on WDADU as well as Falling Into Infinity

Seventh Son

The bass on Take the Time is sexy.

The Ytse Jam has a really awesome bass section by Myung too.

Chagny

The bass tone on FII is amazing. IAW has a great tone too, and so does 6DOIT, to a lesser extent.
The tone on WDADU is definitely odd. I don't dislike it, it's just kinda... neutral for me.

LTE

I love the bass in Blind Faith. If I recall, he used an 8 string?

LCArenas

I love the Blind Faith bass too. An 8 string? Wow, didn't know.

LTE

In one of the "making of SDOIT" videos, Mike shows all of Myung basses in studio and says something about an 8 string, and i'm pretttty sure the beginning bass in Blind Faith is an 8 string, you can hear the octave strings.

setrataeso

I like the old sad bass lines and tones.

ReaPsTA

It's weird but I like it. It fits into the sorta 'magical' quality the whole album has. It has a certain sadness and flow for the melodic sections.

Major underrated JM bass tone - Train of Thought.  Listen to the album with a decent subwoofer. The low end is so powerful. Unlike a lot of DT albums, you can really hear the bass assisting the guitar during the riffs to add to the power.

tri.ad

I like the bass tone on Images And Words best. The Spector sounds really agressive and fits the overall sound very well. FII also has a terrific bass tone, and so does TOT (I agree with ReaPsTA on that).

I also have to say that it's a shame that JM uses so much distortion these days. His Bongo could really provide a good bottom end to the sound, but much of it is taken away by this ridiculous amount of distortion (which seems even worse live, see Peruvian Skies).

BRGM

a 8 stringed bass? :O really? u sure?? it sounds odd...But I know JP uses an A-tuned Baritone on Blind Faith though, like on These Walls.

Zydar

I would like to see him play this one on the next album  ;D

That's 11 strings. Eleven.
