I heard somewhere that John Myung played the violin in the intro of "The Best Of Times." Is this true?

No. Jerry Goodman did.

What he said.

Also - I don't believe JMX has played anything BUT bass on any DT albums.

I could of swore he played something other than the Chapman Stick..... or did JR play the Lap Steel Guitar?

MykeHavoc

As far as I know, Jordan plays the lap steel stuff...unless there's some pre-JR era stuff with lap steel that isn't coming to mind...

Yep, you're right. I misread it.

Oh damnit... I forgot about the Chapman stick. It's just "New Millennium" though... right? Or do I have THAT wrong too? :lol

Hahaha I've totally failed myself tonight... but to be fair, Chapman Stick is a relative to the bass guitar.

Quote from: Wikipedia Article on John Myung
To date, Myung has only used the Stick on four Dream Theater songs in the studio and live: "New Millennium" (in which he uses fingerpicking technique along with the Stick's traditional tapping), "Trial Of Tears", and "Take Away My Pain" from Falling Into Infinity, and "Misunderstood" from Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (although it has been brought into the studio for every recording session since and was the original instrument that the "Home" bassline was performed on until being switched to bass).

Okay... so he's used it FOUR times...

Hey, what about that JMX played the guitar in The Silent Man in Awake tour?!!

...so he's multi-instrumentalist  ;D

No, not really. It's more like a mix of a guitar and a piano (the latter particularly concerning the playing style).

JM used the Stick in Take Away My Pain (album version) as well.

ariich

If you legally bought the album, then you should have the booklet which clearly shows who played the violin. :P

I don't know about the tour, but I'm almost positive he played on the studio version (even though the CD booklet only credits him with bass).
Quote from: BlobVanDam on December 11, 2014, 08:19:46 PMHef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.
