I actually think the studio version is O.K. I really have no interest in seeing it live, though.

::) So, basically the thread is an extended version of "Systematic Chaos sucks and Constant Motion sucks the most from the whole album", meaning that you don't like it so the band should stop playing it live? Nice.

robwebster and ariich basically said everything I'd like to say. It's an amazing live song and shouldn't be left out just for the sake of leaving it (e.g. As I Am isn't played as much as it used to be, but it appears now and then - and that probably will, and should, be the case with CM).
dude chill the fuck up your obsesion with SC is getting really boring.
I hope you're kidding?

No, but for someone who apparently dislikes those kind of conversations so much, you sure do a lot by way of putting words in people's mouths to get them started.

I've defended the merits of Systematic Chaos plenty of times on these very boards. I don't need no n00bs telling me I think things that I've never thought.  :yarr
You can accuse me of a lot of things - but not that I can't read.

Yes, they should stop playing it for a bit.  However, I will concede while the studio version is very "meh," its a lot of fun live.
And that's why I don't see the point in them stopping to play it (except that it's a great song studio as well as live).

2nd yes it is and awesome live song , but they have been playing it a lot, its time to give it a rest.

btw- the worst on the album is obviously TDEN

DT can keep playing Constant Motion if they stop playing Panick Attack.
Also this.
I think you mean Forsaken is the worst off of SC.

toro

@darkes
i'm not kidding everytime theres a SC related thread you jump out with the 'SC haterzzz' out of nowhere.
Maybe the f word wa oír of place sorry abou that.
But really CM is overplayed.

@seventh son
it's a tie :p

Darkes7

I say when I feel there is something to say. That hardly counts as an obsession.

toro

Well this thread is not even about SC is about CM being playe to much.

Zook

I'd like to see older songs so yes I want them to hang it up for a while. What I don't want is any gifs of James (Mike) ripping up any 'play classics' signs.

Jamesman42

Constant Motion is a great song imo. I've seen CM, TDEN, PoW, and TMOLS off of SC. I would definitely like to see ITPOE Pt.1 and Repentance instead.

As for Panic Attack, I love that song to bits. One of my favorites off of that album. Count me in.

Considering I think it is one of their two or three worst songs ever, I would say yes.
This.

MykeHavoc

Its my personal favorite off the album. So long as they don't bring back Forsaken in its place, I'm all set.
Albums are getting ignored entirely, so I'd hope on the next tour (hopefully the evening with format Mike told me we'd be getting) they will leave that album be outside of Repentance, which will be in the context of the 12 Step Suite played in its entirety. I'm hoping for a few tunes from whatever their new album will be at the time (if one is released to coincide with this tour) and then a set of all pre-6 degrees songs. That way everything gets covered.

ytserush

I don't really care.

I'd much rather hear Constant Motion than any other song from that album except for Prophets of War (my favorite from "Systematic Chaos") and maybe Repentance.

Basically, it's not.  You really should stop trying to stir trouble up when it's not there.

setrataeso

Nice to see that my archive is coming in handy for reference here :tup
Yeah, I do agree that constant motion can probably go away for a tour or two. Now, that I've seen it, I'm far more excited for something else to be played.

On a side note, you mentioned Constant Motion reaching 150 by the end of this tour.
Of the 6 songs they constantly played this tour, all but Pull Me Under passed a milestone mark.
Constant Motion is actually only 51 plays ahead of A Rite of Passage, another song that I like, but am ready for them to take a break from.

Dr. DTVT

First off, Setrataeso - thank you so much for making that list.  I'm glad its stickied.  Seriously, I love you - no homo.

They should give CM a rest not because its a terrible song, but simply because its overplayed.  The last three shows I went to (Boston 09, Worcester '10, NYC '10) all had it - and if I had went to Boston for PN '08 I would have gotten it there as well.  I understand the want/need of the band to skew shows toward newer songs - but DT isn't a singles band so the same songs don't have to be crammed down my throat.  There are songs from 8vm, SC, and BC&SL that could work great live.  I'd love to "These Walls" get the live treatment because I think it would really work, and "Prophets of War" went over well at Boston last year.

While I don't mind every city getting the same new songs on a tour - after 3 straight tours its old espcially if it is not a classic or a great crowd particiation song (i.e. PMU).

All I know is that if I get CM next tour, my beer will be on an arcing path toward the stage.

Looking at that link, I'm disappointed that Disappear has only been played twice. It isn't even that long :/

Disappear is a retired song.  Something about it being too personal for JLB.

Mladen

Constant motion is an amazing song, but I don't think it works well in concert. James and Mike can't do it justice, the vocals sound too amateur live...

tri.ad

Personally, I don't mind it that much, but I think that those seven minutes could be used for a better song.

Actually, JLB came out a couple of months ago and said that Disappear was pure fiction. MP retired it because it wasn't exactly about to bring the roof down live, and he liked the idea of having a slightly mythological song. That one song that they'd only played once - or, rather, twice, as they then decided to film it for Budokan.

As is often the case, rob is right.

Its likely that they'll hang it up because they regularly played it since SC's release, probably because of the format of the shows that called for shorter songs.  It would be good to give it a bit of a rest, kind of like how they give "Pull Me Under" a rest and only started playing it again this tour after it was invisible for most of the SC and 8VM tours.  So the next time they bring it out, those that love the song will be even more excited.

PlaysLikeMyung

I've seen it twice, and while it does get me pumped live, there are other songs that could be played.

Seriously, I can think of a few other songs that could have replaced it for the tour

Thanks for the correction Rob.  It was 4:20 AM and I wasn't in the mood for detail checking.  I knew it was retired, just the wrong reason.

I don't mind that song actually. I consider it one of the better songs from SC.

MP said on the Budokan documentary that he would like Disappear to be played only twice. They did it once with the cellist, and thought that would be it, but then they wanted it on a DVD.
