I gotta say it worked out nicely how it's DT's silver anniversary, and they just released an album called "Black Clouds & Silver Linings."  I almost think they planned it in advance lol

yeah i thought it was the 6:00 clock, but it looks like the planetoid on BC+SL, so i wasn't sure.

Which is why I put it there - I wanted it to be subtle.   ;)

Yeah, but see now you're just messing with people's minds because now you're going to have people saying "well, wait!  Awake has two elements representing it on the poster/shirt:  the mirror and the moon.  Other than BCSL, it's the only album that has more than one element!  What does it mean?  Is this a hidden nugget meant to point out that BCSL is Awake pt. II?  *headasplode!*"  You have opened the floodgates, sir.
You sound like you're about to reboot the Octavarium sub-forum.

Looks great, Scotty. Any chance down the road of getting it as a poster flag?

You sir, are wrong. The GH+21 has two elements - the seagull and the poop!

And as for the moon/clock and mirror both being in there, the moon was one of the first elements that I thought I could incorporate - the mirror just seemed to difficult to cut out (trying to decipher where the frame was and wasn't due to some of the shadows). But later I managed to extract the mirror, so Awake got represented twice. So no hidden nuggets there - no need for headasplodes.  :P

I really like that design Scotty! :tup I think I'll buy the poster.

faemir

I really want this, but $17 shipping to the UK :sadpanda:

02T

Got it last night.  Pretty sweet.  They were only selling them at the main floor, not the balcony where I was.  Wish I could have gotten a Maiden one also.

ZBomber

Ordered my poster last night, not gonna take the risk of it selling out before my show.

Samsara

Those going to the shows...how much is the shirt going for at the gig?

Someone in another thread said 35.

Ridiculous. DT lost a shirt sale. Sorry Scotty. I really do love the shirt design though. Nice job.  :-[

what the hell though, seriously. Why charge $35 for a shirt? There is absolutely no need. If I saw at the show the shirts were $25, I'd be much more inclined to buy one (in fact, for this one, it'd be a no-brainer). Come on. DT does a LOT, and I mean a LOT of good stuff for their fans, but that is ridiculous pricing for a t-shirt that costs them, in bulk, probably $4 bucks to produce.

There's no need to ass-rape fans. I went to Lacuna Coil last year, and the shirt was $20. I immediately bought not just one, but two (the other for my wife). It was all the money I had (and I think I had to borrow from bosk1 until I got home), but the shirts were worth it. Had they been $30 or $35, I would have walked away, not even getting one.

$35 is nuts. I'm so tired of that crap. Not just DT, but all bands that are doing it. I realize they make a TON of money via merch, but you don't have to rip us off.

I agree entirely, I mean we generally get more ripped off for everything here in the UK, but £20 is generally a reasonable price to pay for a t-shirt at shows. It's never less than that, but it's not usually more either. But when it's £30 (which is maybe $40 or so) that's just outrageous.

Birch Boy

Yeah I agree with the priced being too high. At the Alice In Chains gig, the only exclusive shirt there was the tour shirt... which was $35 (which is overpriced slightly I think). But the worst part was that there were normal, run-of-the-mill, find-them-at-your-local-Hot-Topic Alice In Chains shirts, for $35 as well. I could've got one on my way home for $15 instead of $35 at the show.

Cool Chris

I've seen it posted that shirts for the current Maiden tour were listed at $35/45/50, though the $50 shirts could be long sleeve, or sweatshirts. Won't know for sure till I go myself. Regardless, $35 is a lot to spend on a shirt at a show I spent $40 to see (in the case of the DT headlining show on June 21). I'm all for supporting the band (and in this case, Scotty, the designer, if he happens to get a cut himself), but in cases like this, I'm more inclined to support Hot Topic, as Birch Boy alluded to.

I'm not much of a band t-shirt wearer myself, but can't wait to hang that poster in my office at home.
Maybe the grass is greener on the other side because you're not over there fucking it up.

Nick

A lot of times an opening act isn't even allowed to price their merch below that of the headliner.

Birch Boy

I think the Zappa Plays Zappa shirts were $20, as opposed to the Dream Theater shirts that were $35 at Progressive Nation 2009... but I may be misremembering. Also, I think Machine Head shirts were slightly cheaper than Metallica shirts at the World Magnetic Tour.

Samsara

re: Hot Topic - seriously. I buy a ton of band shirts there, just because they are cheap and in some cases, like someone posted above, they are the SAME ONES THE BAND SELLS ON TOUR. Sure, some bands have exclusive ones for the tour, which are JUST sold on tour, or on the band's website later. But for the most part, the shirts are the same.

I was just in there on Saturday, and saw a couple of Maiden shirts, new ones, for $15. I may have to just go get one there.

I know it's insanely profitable for the band, but come on, we're already plunking down a bunch of coin for the tickets. At least make the shirt prices REASONABLE.

I'm not thrilled about the price either, but it is pretty much the going rate.  90% of the shows you go to nowadays (or at least, the ones I go to), that's what they cost.  But that's why I rarely buy shirts.  I remember waiting in that line at the Lacuna Coil show with you thinking, "those shirts look good, but I know there's no way I'm realistically buying one because I don't want to spend more than $20, and I know they're not that cheap."  I was pleasntly shocked when we got up to the front and found at that they really were that cheap!  :lol

BRGM

35$ isn't THAT insane :S It's a shirt, you can wear it! most T-shirts is like the same price :P

ZBomber

35 is pretty much the standard these days.

And my poster I ordered from livenation is on back order....  >:(

Samsara

bosk1 - lol. Yeah, it was a complete shock.

All - sorry, $35 IS a lot. It's a ton of money. Most working people can't afford that sort of price, particularly with families. Those that do usually charge it, and that's how people get into debt. Not this man, and not my family.

I guess I'll stick to Hot Topic for my music-related shirts.

me too

02T

It was $35 in San Antonio.  It was more than I wanted to pay, but, I did buy one, so I guess to me it was worth it.  $6 more than my ticket.  But I wasn't able to buy one the last time I saw them, on the Awake tour, and I really, really wanted one.  I am not able to go to a lot of shows, so it's a pretty rare occurence.  It's not like I'm dropping that much once a month or more.

BRGM

How many swedish Kronor is 35$ then?

Setlist Scotty

Just for the record, the band does NOT set the prices of the merch - the merchandising company does. In this case, it's LiveNation, who currently have a monopoly on selling concert tickets and certainly do a high percentage of the merchandising for big, popular bands out there. I remember speaking with MP one time about the pricing of merch, and he said it's out of his hands. Yeah, MP could insist that they not do buisness with LiveNation, but I'm sure contracts are signed, and the band's manager made the deal that he thought was best in the band's interests. So blame the band if you want, but really, the price of the merch is because of the merch company.

With all due respect, I don't think people putting concert t-shirts on charge is how they got into debt...
