All 3 of those are great picks, but UaGM is nowhere near the best on I&W, imo.

BRGM

No it's pretty much the worst song on that album...except PMU, best song on I&W IMO is Wait for sleep  :tup

zxlkho

Learning to Live/Wait for Sleep

I count it as one single song. I always listen to both, never separate.

BRGM

Yeah, I never liked UAGM too much. Least favourite on IaW but still in my Top 50  ;D

?

UAGM is my 5th favorite on I&W but it's still awesome.

whaat? It's a boring random song that does nothing for me?
Yeah, and Learning To Live is like the most inconsistent song ever. And Scarred is the worst song ever because it has so many unexpected transitions and totally random and shit.

Are u like making fun of me or actually being serious?  :D

zxlkho

:lol I have a feeling there's no way that's a serious statement.

Oh, and Learning to Live is my favorite song ever.

AwakeFromOctavarium

Oh please I was just being sarcastic. :lol Love ya, BRGM.

tri.ad

Even the weakest song on Images And Words is a 9/10 song for me.

...Baby sauna in my, naaame"
Funny. I always heard "There is soda in my knee."

7. Voices
What a song... It has beautiful soft parts, great loud parts, and a great Petrucci solo. LaBrie sounds absolutely amazing in the quiet parts and sounds great screaming out the loud ones. This song also has some really great riffs and some cool lyrics (SEX IS DEATH! DEATH IS SEEEEEX!). The chorus also sounds great and got stuck in my head the first time I heard it. This was actually my favourite DT song at one point.
6. The Ministry Of Lost Souls
In the short time I've been here I've never seen this song mentioned. Does anyone else love this one? I think it's absolutely beautiful and, unlike many, I love the lyrics. The structure of this song remeinds me of Sacrificed Sons. Quiet and beautiful verses, loud and powerful choruses, and a heavy instrumental section. I know people don't like the heavy section, but I think it comes in at exactly the right time when you're just about to get bored of the slower parts. Nice contrast to the rest. And I think LaBrie sounds the best in this song since all the way back on Awake. Overall, I think it deserves a high spot on this list. I'd like to know if anyone loves this song like me.
5. In the Presence of Enemies
How can a song with such awful lyrics be this high? Well I actually think this song is amazing. Part 1 starts the album off great with that great instrumental section and that very amazing Petrucci solo. I actually love the lyrics "All I ask is that you worship me" for some odd reason, beats me. Unfortunately the rest of the lyrics are laughable. But that doesn't stop this song from getting #5. After Part 1 ends with that short shredding solo, we listen to the rest of the album, then Part 2! LaBrie comes in sounding great. It has one of my favourite LaBrie moments in: "I cannot see his face / But I can feel his spite / A presence from the dead / abandoned by the light." You can really picture him sneering there. But overall, Slaughter Of The Damned is the best section. An all-out heavy rocker section which is great to hear. This song also ends great great with the main theme being played on the strings. Excellent...

You have way more patience than I do. ITPOE and TMOLS wouldn't be anywhere close to my top 20.

Zydar

Interesting choices. Personally I think TMOLS bores me to tears, and none of those three would be on my Top 25  :P

Mladen

Silver Tears

Interesting top ten you've got. Great songs but I don't think any of them would make my top ten  :P

toro

TMOLS and ITPOE in the top 10?

Things are getting just a little bit scary...

BRGM

YES I love TMOLS just as much as you! It's a wonderfull song! Gives me chills several times
ITPOE is also very gr8  :tup it's up there with 8vm and the count for me.
Voices...  well...   I think it's better now than I used too, I like the "I'm kneeling on the floor" part

Just thought u guys were interested

Here's the part where you realize how much I love their epics:
4. Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence
I knew from the beginning with the orchestra that this song would be something special. That Overture is just an amazing way to open things. About To Crash is also an amazing section with a great piano intro and great vocals. War Inside My Head is good to put things on an angry path for a bit. The Test That Stumped Them All has some amazing drumming and is another angry song. Goodnight Kiss has some beautiful vocals and an amazing guitar solo. Solitary Shell contains one of my favourite instrumental sections in DT history. The piano solo and acoustic guitar solo are both absolutely beautiful. About to Crash (Reprise) is the only weak part I find and I thought was unecessary. Losing Time is short and contains some sad lyrics. And Grand Finale just leaves me speechless. What an amazing song...
3. Scarred
I await your complaints on the high placement of this one. But really, this song is something special. The chorus has an amazing melody to it. LaBrie is at his absolute best. The opening guitar solo is great. The riffs are amazing. And this reminds me of Can-Utility And The Coastliners by Genesis in the sense that it feels like it could be an epic length song with the fact it has so many themes compressed into it(of course it's already twice the length of Can-Utility, but oh well). This song is just constant entertainment and never bores. The instumental section is weaker, but is still quite fun. Overall, just an amazing song.
2. Octavarium
My favourite melody of all time is in this song, being the main theme. That should be enough to explain the placement, but I'll keep going. The continuum intro is pure bliss, and while some think it drags on, I find it essential and absolutely stunning. The Medicate section makes great use of that theme of which I love so much in the chorus. It starts with a groovy bassline and is just beautiful from start to finish. Breathtaking... Full Circle is the weakest section, but is still very nice. I really love all the prog shoutouts in the lyrics along with other things that MP loves. Fun section. Intervals is short, but is one of the absolute greatest climaxes ever. The way LaBrie slowly builds in ferocity until he belts out full blown screams is, for lack of a better word, orgasmic. And then finally we have Razor's Edge. That solo...the orchestra playing my favourite theme...just wow... Okay yes this paragraph may sound very fanboy-ish, but I really love this one. And it could only be bested by one song which I'm sure will be incredibly predictable, but I'll post it tomorrow anyway.  ;) :P

Damn right I am gonna complain about "Scarred" being at number 3.  It is two spots too low. :)

I would rank Scarred at #5, but it's great to see the appreciation for the song.  :tup

Good idea.

There should be no complaints whatsoever about a Top 10 appearance by Scarred.
