Misunderstood is better than both. :hat

It's my #2 song on that amazing album.
Same here, although TGP is starting to lose a little luster, so this may jump to # 1.

I agree about TGP.  It doesn't do as much for me as it use to.  Although, the title track is still #1 for me.

CharlesPL

I like this song, but it's not even in my top 50.

I love the entire album, but I'm still surprised that TGD didn't come in last. I think my ranking at this point would be-

SDOIT/TGP
Blind Faith
Misunderstood
Disappear
TGD

Blind Faith isn't much behind the first two at all, and is still easily a top 10 DT song for me.

Sir Walrus Cauliflower

I was gonna rank the songs off of SDOIT, but I'm honestly kind of tired of making everything a competition. I love TGD. I know you don't like at as much as the others, Blob, but I think it's on of the best. It's such a good album it's hard to compare though.

What fun is DTF without mindless ranking of everything possible? :lol
I agree that it's such a good album that it's hard to compare, and also because the songs are so different too.
I still think TGD is a great song, it's just the one song on the album that I think is not as godly as the rest. If it were on another DT album, it would have still been one of the best on the album. On SDOIT though, it just happens to get nudged to last for me. No shame in being the weakest on SDOIT. That's like being the slowest runner in the 100m final at the Olympics.

Sir Walrus Cauliflower

Next we're going to be ranking sections of songs...

I think the uniqueness of each song is something that really stands out on SDOIT. Every song is so important to the album. On topic: Blind Faith is a wonderful track. I especially love the "And still life pushes on" section.
Local authority on over-intellectualizing.

Hourglass Prison

I love Blind Faith. It took me a while to even pick up Six Degrees when I first got into the band, but it's become one of my favorite albums.

ThatOneGuy2112

The instrumental section of this song is one of DT's absolute best and one of the many things that make it one of my favorite songs from them. Fantastic song on a fantastic record.

FlyingBIZKIT

Still remains in my top 10 DT songs, as does the rest of the album :P

The title track finishing ahead of EVERY song on Disc 1 is epic fail, so DT The League 2014 might want to go back to the drawing board.

I know exactly what you mean.

Here's my ranking:

1. The Glass Prison
2. Blind Faith
3. Disappear
4. Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
5. Misunderstood

6. The Great Debate
Quote from: BlobVanDam on December 11, 2014, 08:19:46 PMHef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Tom Bombadil

Mine would look something like this

1. Misunderstood
2. Disappear
3. Blind Faith

4. TGP
5. TGD

6. SDOIT

Well maybe, but most of us don't think so.  You'll be happy to know that the epic failure from my point of view is Misunderstood coming in dead last.  That's just wrong.  It should've finished at least in the top 4, IMO.  But hey, we've both been around long enough to know that DTF has a mind of its own.  Right, wrong or indifferent. ;)

Invisible

A truly great song, one of my early favorites from an album that took years to click with me and now is maybe my number 1. I love the atmosphere of the song, and James happens to sound very good and natural, maybe because he wrote the lyrics. Besides, the chorus says they have faith in me, yay! (had to throw the bad joke)

As for rankings:

1. Six Degrees (can't help it, too awesome to try being original)
---
2. The Great Debate
3. Blind Faith
4. Dissapear
5. Misunderstood (these four can change on a whim, actually whichever I'm listening to gets to be number 2)
---
6. The Glass Prison (nothing against it, it's really good, but can't compete with the pure greatnesss of all the others)

Madman Shepherd

My ranking:

Blind Faith
Misunderstood
The Great Debate

The Glass Prison

Disappear

SDOIT

The funny thing is, after it first came out my ranking was:

SDOIT

Blind Faith
Misunderstood

The Glass Prison
Disappear
The Great Debate

Tomislav95

1. Blind Faith
2. Disappear
3. The Glass Prison
4. Misunderstood
5. Six Degrees
6. The Great Debate

Voices

One of my favs, and I do need to see it live someday.

CharlesPL

My Ranking:

1.SDOIT
2.Misunderstood

3.The Great Debate

4.The Glass Prison
5.Blind Faith

6.Disappear

Miss Bangkok

Blind Faith is one of my top 10 favs; I'm listening to it right now actually. It's a hall of fame tune.

WDADU

One of my all-time favourite Dream Theater songs, and probably my favourite song off of Six Degrees of Inner Turbulance.

Podaar

Just popped into mention that I absolutely love the sonic space that JP's guitar tone occupies in this song. It's so scratchy and trebly that it rarely crosses over into JM or JR's space.

What a great song...man, I hope we get more of this stuff down the road.

adamack

Love this song, but it's probably one of the least listened to on the disc for some reason.

I think it's because I like The Great Debate a considerable amount better, and they are both similar in length, both about social issues, etc. So I usually just put on TGD.

I'm listening right now though, and it's an awesome song nonetheless.

I love the bridge part after the second chorus. ("And still life pushes on...")

And the instrumental section following that is  :metal

JR's piano solo part is among my favorite JR moments.

Also love how MP is so busy in the lead-up to the final chorus.

1. SDOIT and TGD (tie)
3. Misunderstood
4. The Glass Prison
5. Blind Faith
6. Disappear

Dublagent66

Well, since the thread got bumped, I'll chime in again.  A song truly worthy of appreciation.  :2metal:

Tick

Studio wise one of my all time favorite DT songs! Amazing song!

Live version, not so much. James on the chorus sounds too different and not cohesive to me.

Scorpion

Yeah, this is still the best song on their best album. Everything about this song is amazing.

Well, Chaos in Motion is widely regarded as a poor representation of most DT songs.

Check out this performance from 2002.  Sounds much better IMO (sound quality is not so great for this bootleg though )

That 2002 performance isn't bad and I'd agree that its certainly better than the CiM one, but Blind Faith has always been a DT song that has sounded better in the studio to me.  Which is weird for DT, because with all their live releases and bootlegs I have found performances of most of their songs that are equally enjoyable or more enjoyable than the studio versions, but Blind Faith has never been one of those songs. For me the studio version is untouchable because they just haven't been able to capture the song perfectly live, or at least the performances I've seen.

Regardless, Blind Faith is a tremendous song and one of my favorites off of an incredibly strong album.

Madman Shepherd

I actually think the vast majority of DT songs are much better in the studio than live including Blind Faith.  I would be hard pressed to think of songs I actually prefer live but there are a few.

erwinrafael

Would have liked this better if MP did not overpower JR in the Moog solo.

I agree, especially anything from SDOIT. That album is so perfectly crafted in the studio, that it always loses a little something live. That's not a statement on how they play it live, just on how amazing that album sounds.
