So, the first two songs I thought of are these:

Michael Martin Murphy-Wildfire
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pc3OnSQc48s

The Sweet-Love Is Like Oxygen
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ean-ehaBSF0

Missed this post . . . I get goosebumps EVERY time I listen to Wildfire. Just an amazing song and one of the first I thought of when making my 70s pop playlist.

Orleans - Dance With Me

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-IXJLgRnvs

I’m having a hard time coming up with a contribution to this thread. This one in particular, yeah it’s kind of cheesy buy it’s a really great song.

I was gonna nominate Christopher Cross’ sailing (just barely a 70s song), but it’s also just a really great song, and one that seems a little more 80s than 70s.

That said, I do think it’s funny how much he looks like Andy Dwyer from Parks and Recreation in this live footage (also, a double neck - prog!).

The ‘afternoon delight’ one.
Something like the  ‘starlight vocal group’. Cheesy, but great harmonies. Cringy lyrics, imagining those goofballs getting down to business.

How about the only good Kiss song, “Beth.”

I kid. “God Gave Rock and Roll To You” is pretty good too.

One of my earliest favourite songs was Billy Don’t Be A Hero by Paper Lace. Made such an impression on me I’ve never volunteered for anything! 😀😀

As a kid into Westerns, it was a no-brainier.

As a boy named Billy, who was repeated admonished as a kid, "don't be a hero", I hate that fucking song.  :) :) :) :)

I kid, it's a great song.  I mean, I'm not lying; I was told all the time "don't be a hero", but that's not the song's fault.  :)

Thngs that I find cringey, I do not find catchy.

Most of the songs listed here are, to me, catchy, but not cringey.

You know, there is one exception to that:  Escape (The Piña Colada Song).  I HATE that song, and it's cringey as all hell (how '70s is that entire concept?!?) but as much as I hate it, I hear it and it imbues itself into my brain like a virus.  Cringey Catchy as all hell.

Yes, but it's not usually cringey or catchy.  Just annoying or weird.

Getting stuck in your head against your will tends to qualify as catchy regardless of how much one hates the song.

Think of “catchy” as just another word for “earworm”

That's not what catchy means, at least to me.

Catchy is usually a compliment.  It's got a nice beat, you can dance to it.

I think cringy and catchy are in the ears of the beholder.

Like I wouldn't have listed Baby Come Back on this thread because to me, it isn't cringy.  It's fucking awesome.  YMMV

No need to get into the semantics weeds.  Just have fun.

I can't confirm if this is cringy, but I do like the catchiness of this song.  I think I heard this song from a Planters commercial and I don't know why it took a long time for me to want to find it on Youtube.  Just a good vibe song.

HELP US (me/wife/daughter) FIGURE OUT A SONG!

Maybe a 70s tune?  Probably cringy/maybe catchy.  It starts with a male voice going "ba da BA BA BAAA ba da BA BA BAAA. (repeat)"  That's as far as we get.  Daughter heard it on TV lately.  Maybe a commercial?  It's the same or similar vocal melody as towards the end of "Take a Chance on Me" by ABBA.  3:25 here --> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-crgQGdpZR0

HELP!  :D
