Random thing: I was a local vinyl shop this weekend and they actually had a copy of When Dream and Day Unite.  I am trying to keep my vinyl collection to either major favorites and/or ones with really awesome covers.  Even though I like the DT debut a lot, that cover is not good, so I couldn't pull the trigger.  And that was not going to be only one of two DT albums I own on vinyl (I currently have Awake, still hoping to get I&W and Scenes).
Original or one of the many reissues that seem to be around?
Of WDaDU on vinyl?!? Not that it matters to me since I don't collect vinyl, but this is the first I've ever heard of there being reissues of that album on vinyl.

There was a Music on Vinyl re-release of it back in 2018, around a similar time to the other early DT stuff, I believe. I found out a couple years ago that the label has a kinda bad rep for using digital sources, so a lot of vinyl snobs hate them. WDADU never got an Enjoy the Ride re-press like most others did, tho

I finally gave the album a chance and bought a copy on CD.

"Only A Matter Of Time" is too good. It's crazy that the band haven't played the song in over 15 years. They should include it on the next setlist, it would make a killer encore.

According to John, they planned to do it in 2014 for the Along For The Ride Tour, but there was no time left in the set for it.

Three thoughts.......
1) Really love the songs
2) NOT a fan of Dominici' vocals
3) Production very weak

Real captain obvious observations there, huh? :rollin

Is this the only DT album without a "ballad"?

I guess it depends on how you define "ballad."  I would say TOT doesn't have one.

Well...that's why the definition is important, and I understand that a lot (and maybe even most) would regard Vacant as a ballad.

the way I see it, yes, to date, this is the only album without a ballad. (unless A View would turn out to be another album without one of course, which I don't know yet.)

I don't think Vacant is a ballad.

I don't think there's any ballads on Awake, SDoIT, and Systematic Chaos either. I don't consider Space Dye Vest or Disappear (or Goodnight Kiss section of SDoIT) to be ballads.

Ballads for me are: Another Day, Anna Lee, Through Her Eyes, The Answer Lies Within, Wither, Beneath The Surface, Along For The Ride, etc...

Why is the thread called "35 Years On"?

As someone who is as old as WDADU is I am deeply offended that you've added 3 years to my life that I haven't lived yet.

I have still never heard this studio album to this day, and I've been hooked on DT since Images and Words. I have the live version on dvd with JLB, but I never got around to ordering the album.
I need to quit being a jerk and order a copy.
So are you still a jerk?   :lol
As a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.
