That Poppy album is.....interesting... :corn :zombiepile:

That was verbatim my first reaction to it as well  :lol
I like it, I just wish it was longer. Cyril probably won't because he "usually doesn't like industrial shit"  :P

The Walrus

Crow

alrighty  :corn
and yeah i'm not looking forward to the poppy one but it probably isn't even gonna get added to the list. i'm still keeping this open for a bit so i'd be surprised if i ended up needing the third pass albums

mike099

1) Allegaeon - Proponent for Sentience -

2) Awooga - Conduit - Stoner/Grunge

3) Rivers of Nihil - Where  Owls Know my Name

Crow

the rivers of nihil album is one i already own  :lol
other two are fine though, i'll put 'em up

Luoto

Crow

Nachtmerrie

Mother of Millions - Artifacts
Jakub Zyteki - Nothing Lasts, Nothing's Lost
Hallatar - No Stars Upon the Bridge

Crow

the Jakub Zyteki album I've heard. the other two work though. one's a roulette album for me I didn't check out before, actually, haha  :lol

lonestar

I was thinking of suggesting Proponents for Sentience instead of Apoptosis so glad someone else did and glad it is being taken up.

Very curious to hear your take on Clutching at Straws, it was no.1 on my top 50 a few years back, and still a strong top 5 album.

The Music - Strength in Numbers

i don't have much to say about this because i just can't enjoy the vocals. i'm not 100% sure what they're going for but it's just a sound i dislike. i don't think i would've been wild about this anyways - some fun grooves here and there and a few hooks that seemed alright but nothing that really particularly caught my ear either. just not for me.

would i relisten? (yes/maybe/no) - no

King Postwhore

1st - Slow Motion Reign - Self Titled.
2nd - This Day & Age - The Bell & The Hammer.
3rd - Echolyn - Self Titled.
"I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down'." - Bon Newhart.

Crow

the This Day & Age album i've heard before. added the other two.
i'm probably going to officially close recommendations on the 5th, and i'll backfill the rest of the list with second-pass albums at that time if there's still room for them.

King Postwhore

"I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down'." - Bon Newhart.

Crow

honestly at this point there's literally not enough space on the list to fill in any third-pass albums so don't worry about it  :lol

Karcius is pretty average anyways, you're not missing much....

Danielle Luppi & Parquet Courts - Milano

ooh i don't have a lot i can say i liked about this. for half of this i didn't even realize there was a third name attached to this & so i thought it was like, a split of two incongruent styles, which it still kinda feels like... having said that, i really do not like karen o's voice at all. just ruins every song she's on. flush is particularly bad but i didn't like any of those cuts. the other cuts are okay... i actually kinda dig the closer but it's stylistically completely different than everything else here anyways. i'd maybe listen to an entire album of that. but i can't say the rest did much for me.

would i relisten? (yes/maybe/no) - no

Crow

4) Destroyer - Have We Met #MWE

wasn't so sure about this at first but it grew on me towards the end. the man in black's blues was my favorite for sure, but the entire run of the last three tracks i enjoyed a lot. it's got nice, chill vibes to it with a bit of quirkiness but not really pushing to be "weird" specifically. i don't know if i enjoyed all of it, but it did work for me pretty well. might actually look at the lyrics next time though :V

would i relisten? (yes/maybe/no) - yes

TAC

That's one creepy looking dude.

Is that his name...Destroyer? :lol
Quote from: wkiml on June 08, 2012, 09:06:35 AMwould have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Quote from: Buddyhunter1 on April 22, 2023, 05:54:45 PMTAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

Crow

officially closing recommendations and populated the full list now. today's album coming in just a bit

5) Eisley - I'm Only Dreaming

i listened to a different eisley album late last year and i mean it in the nicest way when i say that sherri could pass as a taylor swift impersonator, at least vocally. but anyways yeah this is solid indie pop rock type stuff whatever you call it, i've liked some songs in isolation (mr. moon, snowfall off this one) but i'm not particularly convinced by their ability to put together an album that stays compelling for a full 40+ minutes. some weird choices of trap percussion on like two tracks here too which... mmm. wouldn't say it was a bad listen, and it might get another spin from me for having a few tracks i liked, but i wouldn't call it that interesting either.

would i relisten? (yes/maybe/no) - maybe

Puppies_On_Acid

I like most of Eisley's output, but Currents is probably their most well rounded album.

6) Mobius - Kala

indian-tinged djent, which is to say, djent is generally not gonna win me over, but use of prominent female vocals + a decent sense of melodic riffing means it's not super boring or uninteresting either. and the unique flavors on top of that also helped a fair bit, i did enjoy this to some extent even though i was never really "wowed" by it either. it feels a bit short (only 5 full tracks really) and i'd hesitate to call it that "unique" though.

would i relisten? (yes/maybe/no) - maybe

lonestar

That sounds rather intriguing...I'll put it on for my commute tomorrow.

Crow

7) Envy - The Fallen Crimson #MWE

ooh yeah I enjoyed this. I do think it pushes a bit long for the genre but the overall sound is nice & lush & melodic but with enough chaotic energy at times and enough intensity to it to stay interesting throughout. would say the opener, hikari, and the closer were my faves on first listen but this is definitely something getting more spins from me, feels like they've really modernized their sound well (granted haven't heard anything between this one and their 2001 album so lol)

would i relisten? (yes/maybe/no) - yes

The Walrus

Yeah that Mobius record isn't something I think I'll be replaying much if at all but the artwork caught my eye, and to be fair it stands out from other djent 'cause of the Indian flavors imo. A curious listen but definitely a 'maybe' relisten for me as well for the end of the year

Crow

i was tempted to post this in puppies' roulette thread for the meme btw

Train of Naught

Wait who recced the new envy it literally cams out today??
Really glacier you like that anyway, would suggest to check out Ihsomniac Doze and All the Footprints..
