This is the track listing for the CD.

Track Listings
1. Untethered Angel
2. Paralyzed
3. Fall into the Light
4. Barstool Warrior
5. Room 137
6. S2N
7. At Wit's End
8. Out of Reach
9. Pale Blue Dot

The total running time is listed as 57 minutes.  The LP shows 61 minutes.  I hope not as that makes these songs really short.

If At Wits End is 10 min long, then that would average about 6 minutes per song for the remaining 8 songs.

Does that include the bonus track time? Appears Viper King is the bonus track? Is that the 4 min difference between LP and CD times?

S2N sticks out as a weird title to me. And yea, I guess Viper King would be the bonus.

Does this mean there's going to be a song not available on CD and only available on vinyl?!  If so, I call bullshit.

So 57 minutes for a 9 track record. That's an average of a little more than 6 minutes per song, that's pretty short for DT standards.

I thought Pale Blue Dot was supposed to be the album closer?

Perhaps Viper King is the bonus track found on the second CD but on side 4 of the vinyls?

DT has yet to disappoint me so I'm sure I will be happy with this but 57 minutes is about half an hour less than I was expecting . . .

I'm thinking of an album more or less with track lengths like FII, but without Anna Lee and Trial of Tears or... like I&W with PMU replaced by two songs of 4 minutes and I guess I'm OK with that.

9 tracks and 57 minutes isn't too bad, and it doesn't appear to have an intro track or instrumental.  Better then 45 minutes including an intro :cough: Haken :cough:

S2N = Second To None?

Signal to Noise.

https://haifengl.github.io/smile/api/java/smile/feature/SignalNoiseRatio.html

"The signal-to-noise (S2N) metric ratio is a univariate feature ranking metric, which can be used as a feature selection criterion for binary classification problems. S2N is defined as |μ1 - μ2| / (σ1 + σ2), where μ1 and μ2 are the mean value of the variable in classes 1 and 2, respectively, and σ1 and σ2 are the standard deviations of the variable in classes 1 and 2, respectively. Clearly, features with larger S2N ratios are better for classification."

How can you make a song about THIS?  :lol Are we sure Mangini didn't write the lyrics for this one as well?

Well, you can also use this term in a metaphorical way. It's the amount of original (desired) information, versus the noise that surrounds it in a way, i'm sure you can use this in a lyrical way to talk about people, opinions and so on. Especially in the age of information where we have so many channels of info and noise where filtering it out is really difficult.

S2N sounds so much like it would be a short instrumental interlude to me, something to break up the album but I think it's been said there are no instrumentals. It's also weird that there are back to back songs with numbers in the title, that's definitely a first.

You just beat me to it - I was thinking it is probably a short piece, perhaps similar to WfS, Vacant or FFH. So maybe it sets up AWE, or maybe it serves as some sort of coda for R137.
As a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

Exactly :lol and don’t forget the 1 minute long hidden track too. 57 minutes is fine, we get a killer album of short(er) songs and concise songwriting, plus a bonus track. Count me in :metal

Btw, now we know that:

Room 137: Mangini
At Wit’s End, Out of Reach and Viper King: LaBrie
Untethered Angel, Barstool Warrior and Pale Blue Dot: Petrucci

That leaves 3 tracks without a confirmed lyricist. We know 2 of them were written by Myung, we just need to find out which two ;D
It sounds like, "ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk." Instead of the more pleasing kick drum sound of, "gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk."

Like I've said before, I'm totally fine with a shorter album with most of the songs being under 10 minutes. It all comes down to the songwriting.

I'm hoping for some heavy, catchy and melodic tunes, that can be recreated well in a live environment.

Mangini said on part 2 of the interview that they had already finished the album but wrote one last song from Myung's riff. I guess that's what ended up being the bonus track = Viper King/track 10.
