¡Oh! Yo también redacté un documento en español (con links e imágenes) sobre la búsqueda del tesoro. Si algún otro fan sudamericano lo quiere tener, escríbanme un e-mail (sebastianpratesi@gmail.com) y se lo envío con todo gusto.  ;)

I'm very puzzled & curious at the Falling Into Infinity pt. 1 and 2 for challenge names. The rest of the album names fit into the number challenges left, but I wonder, of ALL the albums to have pt. 1 & 2, why Falling into Infinity?

Maybe because it was intended originally to be a double album? hehe

Or maybe..
Just maybe..

Hello. I am one of the guys in the G-Doc crew. Thanks to thekeyboardwizard for mentioning my contributions. (I'm flattered.) The O from puzzle 7 is at position 9 in the master puzzle code by the way, according to what we know by now anyway. (it will help us all leading up to the final puzzle I think)
All my natural instincts are begging me to stop
But somehow I carry on, heading for the top
A physical absurdity, a tremendous mental game
Helping me understand exactly who I am

That would be my reasoning as well (and to keep us on our toes as well I would think)

in case anyone is interested: here is the current picture progress chart. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1S0TxEVmIlkI5EVDRuJ5nLaLpA09ngcT8G6N2bQ_HgqE/edit#gid=437004778 It has been updated with fragments 6 and 7 as well. Puzzle 8 will likely begin tomorrow.

the first clue for puzzle 8 came in just now: https://twitter.com/FreddyJacobi/status/1032562534266675200
Please note the following: (bolded for you)

"Nine by nine, symbols hidden by design. Divide in style, and you'll be good for a while. Solve one to solve another and you soon will have won. Subtract the extra ponies to identify the phonies. Then the master key is needed for the final song..."

Another Won was one of the earliest DT pieces in 1985 and you'll find the master key on the GDoc (will of course be updated once we know more). Divide may refer to The Path That Divides and the ponies may refer to When Your Time Has Come. That's all I could extrapolate for now.

"Letters big and small, hidden where you have seen it all. Hard to read but gives the location - this backwardation information figuration is desperation. Keep your eyes up for the password puzzle for which you wait in anticipation."

The DT World Fb page posted a new clue. Apparently, the paper on the table has something to do with the current puzzle: https://www.facebook.com/dreamtheater/videos/vb.7677942180/532840363804427/?type=2&theater

Looks like something similar in this pic JP just posted - look on the computer screen:

I saw this picture too! I figured there must be a clue because the computer screen resembled the layout of the 'puzzle picture'... also, Mike Portnoy's comment on this...  :eek

There are numbers on that grid on the screen

ddtonfire

I think they're letters. Pretty tough to make out. This is my wild guess:

m   ?  l?
n   o    ?
b   T   z?
u  G   N

MinistroRaven

You are correct, I watched the image again on the laptop and those are definitely letters

No problem! :)
By the way, I've been on Discord with a couple other guys, working through the puzzles.

The "Key" puzzle is solved when you take the code Freddy tweeted, and divide (i.e. separate) the numbers from the letters. If you make strings of 9, you get a square of 9x9 consisting of letters, and another 9x9 square of numbers (plus an extra 5 numbers at the end).

The numbers' square is a Sudoku - every 0 is a blank cell, so you have to complete it. Once you complete the Sudoku, and you remove every 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 (because those were the extra 5 numbers), you get a "structure". The same "structure" in the letters' square ends up being this:

Now, I'm not sure we're doing it right. But, a certain someone gave the image (posted by yours truly on the Discord chat-room) a thumbs-up :tup. Therefore, that looks to be one way to approach the rest of the puzzle.

That's cool! Would you mind if I posted that on the Discord chat-room? So far, we haven't worked on that puzzle, so your findings will be useful. Thanks! ;)

Heck yeah, go for it!

Would you mind adding it to the Gdoc then? Because I only collected the Tweets and mentioned a forum post of yours as of now. (for which I am grateful by the way)

I just wrote to you on Discord. I sent you (and Hyrul) the description of how the puzzle is/was solved.
Feel free to copy-paste or edit whatever you feel like for the Gdoc! ;)

Max Kuehnau

I just did that. We'll see how Hyrul decides to adapt it, but your input was and is a great help. Thank you. I couldn't do it on my own this time around, absoutely not.

I find this treasure hunt interesting. Its like a elementary version of the cicada 3301 phenomenon.

I'm enjoying all your guys' hard work. Keep it up. I'm also amazed at how many intelligent people there are on here.

Max Kuehnau

I don't consider myself to be intelligent. That would be incredibly arrogant.

In case it's interesting to someone else:

I just read the article Freddy linked in his last WordPress page (https://dellsystem.me/posts/sudoku-code).

Freddy's error, which he mentioned in one of his tweet (https://twitter.com/FreddyJacobi/status/1033342875248091136), was not such. He did the same thing as the example in the article:

  • He chose a 48 letter password ("In...Master"),
  • He ciphered it ("Un...Yakmii"),
  • He separated the last 5 letters ("akmii") and put them outside the Sudoku grid,
  • He threw in an extra 2 letters (in this case, his initials) to the 43 letters ("UFn...jY"),
  • He distributed the 45 letters in the grid.

I think this goes to show that, each time we thought (or he stated) he made a mistake, it was never the case.
(The other examples would be the extra "Falling Into Infinity", which he never corrected; and the "6=2" thing from last week.)
