Another great start today.  Second shift left 2 dock plates down when calling out 2 trailers and a call out.

Yes it's good. And I just confirmed the order for my new work computer. Should be here early next week. Now to go order the software upgrades that will be necessary.

Morning, Axeman.

Quiet day here at work. I might be able to get more resources together for beginning to study for the CCIE Written exam.

I think I'm going to be spending my day compiling what I'll need to set up the new computer. It won't be much, but I'm thinking it might be better if I begin with a fresh system instead of migrating from this one. I get the feeling this thing has seen better maintenance days and the bulk of what needs to be migrated is less system settings and more documents and data, which can be copied without cloning the system.

Can you tell I'm a little excited?

I love this part of the day. My boss is based on another continent, and the only colleague I have in this office doesn't usually come in until 10:30-11 (he also stays later). The peace and quiet first thing in the morning is fantastic.

I get excited over computer stuff, too. Once I start going on about Cisco and networking, I sometimes don't shut the fuck up.  :lol

I enjoy a quiet morning. The days I hate are the ones where as soon as you get in, you're being sent off to do something.

For me it's just finally having the ability to replace this slow, old, outdated machine I have here. It slows me down so much, I could get so much more done. Now begins the unbearable wait for it to ship and arrive.

Our computers are slowly getting updated. We're hoping to get laptops since I'm a field tech and it would be convenient to have everything I need with me, instead of always having to call into the office and have them test it remotely. If I can do it on-site, it would save so much time and trouble.

Just purchased the Office and Creative Cloud upgrades. They will be ready and waiting when the new machine gets here.

I've heard of Creative Cloud, but I've never used it for obvious reasons. Adobe makes it, right?

Yeah it took the place of the Creative Suite after CS6. Subscription based. Instead of paying thousands for licenses of the latest version of whatever software package you buy, you pay a monthly (or annual) subscription fee and your account gives you full access to either individual licenses or the entire application suite. You get all updates pushed to you as long as your subscription is up to date. The subscription fees are a lot less than the huge lump sump of the old individual license model. For example, my annual plan just now for my license was less than $850 for every application in the suite. The same number of licenses in the prior model would have cost well over $5000. Will we end up paying more than $5000 over the life of the use of the programs? Yes, but bear in mind this also includes all future versions, so no paying again for a license upgrade.

Oh, alright. I remember Creative Suite. I was messing around with it for a while back when CS5 was out. It makes sense to use the subscription based payment. You definitely wind up saving money, especially considering how often it might update to a newer version. It could wind up that every other year you're stuck paying for a full newer version.

And it used to be such a struggle to upgrade or change systems. Say you purchased a new license back with CS2. Skipped CS3 but purchased the upgrade to CS4 at a reduced price. Then you decided to upgrade to CS5, and then again to CS6. Then, you upgrade your system, or need to reinstall the suite. That means you need to go back and install CS2, then upgrade to CS4, then upgrade to.... and so on and so on. This current format keeps everything up-to-date, and the business plans allow for a single administrator to control licenses and access.

I have Creative Cloud on my work laptop, its totally awesome. Automatically updating all my apps is a life saver, plus Adobe trying to incorporate some newer features like Assets and Stock as well.

It definitely seems like a great way to keep up to date. It updates like Windows would. It just happens on its own.

I didn't know what I was having, then the office decided we were all getting Jimmy John's. So yeah. Billy Club with Vito meat, it was.
