DT the League 2015 - Division 1, Week 17

Please vote for the song that you'd like to see win each of the numbered matches.

These are 16 head to head matches. You shouldn't be voting for your 16 most favorite overall. You should be voting for one song in each matchup... meaning one of the songs with a "1." in front of it, one of the songs with a "2." in front of it, an so on all the way to one of the songs with "16." in front of it.

You don't have to vote for a song in each match if you don't want to, whether you can't choose between the two, or don't like either etc. Individual matches can have less votes than the total number of people who voted, but they shouldn't have more.

Please double-check your ballot before submitting it.

If you have any questions about anything in regards to properly voting, please ask BEFORE voting.

If you realize that you made a mistake after voting, please let us know, so we know what to fix.

If you want to, you can reply with what you voted for... and we can discuss the match ups.  :tup

Voices 13
Pull Me Under 2

I have to ask.. What makes Voices so great?..

In my ears, the PMU riff it's a better one, the chorus it's by far a better one, and even the intro.. I really like the begining of Voices, but I know that is due to the ending of Erotomania, that sweet link between them.. And I enjoy more the Voices' solo than the PMU's solo, but I don't think it's a brilliance by John, even though I know that even to himself it's one of his best solos.. The only thing I like more in Voices than I do in PMU and they're truly good, are the verses, mainly the "Thought disorder..." part..

Apart from that, I find the song to be a bit boring (both quiet sections) and the melodies (first verse, chorus, arrangments in general) very weird in a negative way.. I'm talking about the sensation it leaves me every time I hear it.. Having said all this, I could say that I like Voices, but PMU.... No, that's definitely more catchy, there's more to enjoy, from begining to end.. So, why is so good for you guys?.. Or, rather, what has to win over PMU by more than 10 votes? If I had to guess, I'd say that a strong factor is the dislike some have for PMU for being their "greateSt HIT" and all that...  :justjen

For once, I agree with you about the two songs... I definitely prefer Pull Me Under. However, I don't think you should make the assumption that it has anything to do with PMU's relative mainstream success. I don't think anyone here cares about that.

Voices has fantastic lyrics, one of JP's best solos, and I just love its dark ambience. However, PMU is great too.

I find interesting the fact that you put the structure or lyrics of a song before the melodie, the sound, the music itself.. At least in this particular case..

Sometimes when you have two great songs, you need to look at other details to choose one over the other.  PMU isn't one of my favorite DT songs, but it's still a good song. Voices is amazing from start to finish.  The lyrics are among JP's best and the solo, while not his best, is still a thing of beauty. I think PMU is that song where some people go, "ok that's great, but what else do you have."

Never been a big fan of Pull Me Under. And though I think it's perfectly fine, I don't love Voices either. But Voices is clearly the better one for me.

I don't have a checklist that I go over when evaluating songs.  I was just giving a few specific things about Voices that I prefer when compared to PMU.

Everything about it.  Voices is easily one of the three or four best crafted DT songs ever.
