To each their own but Extreme is just a great band, I just wish they would be more active.

I enjoyed that sunburst tack. I see it's the guitarist and singer with Black Fate. I could hear the Khan thing in the vocal and thought it was Black Fate.

Your words to Gary and Nuno's ears. Seriously. Extreme is a GREAT band. Saw them headline in 2008 on the Saudes de Rock tour with King's X opening. been almost 10 years now. WAYYYYY too long. Love their catalog, particularly the first four (Saudes de Rock is my least favorite).

Saw them twice a long time ago, a small show during the pornograffitti tour and a festival right before Punchline was released (with Mangini on drums). Both were killer shows.  :metal

My favorite changes between III sides and Punchline.

I just don't understand why they don't make records on a more regular basis. Nuno's stuff with Mourning Widows, Population 1 and solo was good, but it wasn't the same.

I wasn't a fan of Nuno's solo stuff. It's OK, I don't hate it, just not a huge fan. I really enjoyed Tribe of Judah and...oh man, name is escaping me, the other more hard rock side band Gary had after that. Ugh...old fogey moment.

III Sides is my clear-cut favorite. I mean, Am I Ever Gonna Change is one of the best songs ever recorded in my opinion. But Warheads, Stop the World, Cupid's Dead, Rest in Peace...just an amazing record.

I have that Tribe Of Judah record, I remember thinking it wasn't bad but didn't revisit it often. Honestly can't recall one track from memory.

The Nuno stuff was better imo, especially Furnished Souls For Rent, it wasn't as good as the original band but it was the closest thing to Extreme musical wise apart from Extreme themselves.

Agreeing on Am I Ever Gonna Change, best Extreme song and one of my alltime favorites. The whole suite is great. And yes, Warheads, Cupid's Dead, Peacemaker Die, Stop The World are all amazing songs.

The recent Pornograffitti live DVD was awesome. Saw them a couple of times back in the day, on the Porno and III Sides tours. By III Sides they had the horn section etc and it was a bit too overblown and was losing the rocking element I thought.
Absolutely hated Punchline. Still do. It just wasn't a style of music I liked.
Audades was ok.
I only have Schizophonic of Nuno's solo stuff and that was worse than Punchline.

There is only one U so you won't be there long  :D

I liked everything from Extreme up to III Sides and dropped them pretty quick after Punchline , just like Queensryche after HINTF.  I am very loyal  ;D    I have never even heard American Soldier but based on some of the chat , maybe I should.

I have never seen Extreme but had tickets to a (cancelled) gig a couple of years ago.  Depending on the story ......either tickets weren't selling (which is crazy seeing Steel Panther can sell out a place 3 times the size) or Nuno got  RiRi call.  Either way I was disappointed , especially after seeing their Boston Live DVD from recent years which is killer.

Saw GnR last night along with 80,000 others  - will get back to that later

So - Gunners.

I have mixed feelings about the gig.   The band arrived on stage almost an hour late  - surprise, surprise.   I am not sure whether that was a matter of waiting for the sun to set or perhaps Axl was getting a foot massage but either way , Axl leaves with his reputation in tact.  During the 90 mins leading up we had non stop Barry White through the speakers so I was just about passed out by the time they got on.

Then the announcer from Spinal Tap comes on and says "HELLOOOOOO  SYDNEY".  One way to piss of a group of Melbournians is to call then "Sydney".

Then they started with It's So Easy which was a pretty flat opener really.

At this point we realise that , as expected , the outdoor football ground colosseum of the MCG has awful acoustics and to top it off the sound is way too loud and distorted.  During the first 30-40% of the gig I was starting to wonder if I had grown out of GnR but they won me back gradually - especially after I put some ear plugs in which filtered out a lot of the noise and allowed me to hear what Axl was doing.  To some extent the softer songs were the highlights as I could actually hear what was going on.

Random thoughts.......

Song Of The Night:  Sweet Child (their biggest hit here easily) followed by Paradise City

Bright Spot :  Axl's teeth

Weird Spot : Axl's "banter".  When addressing the crowd he turns from a raging frontman into a mumbling hermit.

Best Guitarist Of The Night:  obviously Slash came up with the iconic melodies etc... but Fortus is clearly a better technical player

Most Wardrobe Changes:  Axl must've changed a dozen times

Axl's Performance:  his voice seems in great shape , so a tick.  Looks like the face has had plenty of work :lol

Overall I am glad that I went but when the sound is as bad as it was , it ruins a large part of it.

You could argue that the songs are better written etc...and that an outdoor gig with 80,000 people is amazing but I would still take KISS indoors with 10,000 people, better sound , better pyro and much more crowd involvement.

Will post a photo/vid or two later.

Setlist : https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/guns-n-roses/2017/melbourne-cricket-ground-melbourne-australia-6bf86e46.html

PS  Local boy Angus Young dropping by for a couple of songs was cool  too.

Does anyone think the reunited Guns n Roses will release any new material, or will they just stick with live shows.

Well they are getting one off crowds this time around (due to the multi decade gap) but after this tour is done , if they want to maintain this sort of interest , new material is probably the one way they could milk it again ............if the new material is good.

Initially I think there was no intention for new material but supposedly they are getting along much better than anticipated , so it has to be a chance.

Brent, I watched Riff Raff from the Sydney show. There seemed to have some serious pacing issues between the 3 guitarists. In fact the only ones locked in seemed to be the drummer (whoever that is) and Angus. I must say that Slash could not look less interested.

It would be pretty tough with 3 guitarists with shit sound in an open air arena.  I didn't notice much but then I couldn't make out much either :lol

Slash is never what I would call animated - if anything he ran around the stage and looked a bit more into it than normal.

Perhaps during the Angus spot he was happy to leave it mostly to Angus.

I'll see if I have anything decent on my phone as I did take a little bit of video during the Angus spot.  We were up pretty high in the stands but I was thankful for that really.  It just would've been tiring down in the pit ........and watching a sea of phones.

Wait, did you just introduce Sunburst? I swear you said at the beginning of the podcast that you were not including them.

Rubbish - listening to it in 9 minute bits is the problem  :P  ;D

Seriously though ..............back in the day I only listened to one show (I wasn't an avid radio listener) and they did one 3 hour show each Sunday night , so 12 hours a month where I basically needed to listen to it live.

You guys get a 5-9 hr show once every 6-8 weeks on average that you can listen to at your leisure and it's all too much.

Pussies  ;D

Dave Lee Roth used to fuck up the city name every night!

I remember it used to happen at the Monsters of a Rock festival all the time. American bands would refer to the crowd as "London" even though it was a good 150 miles away. Just next door in the US and Australia perhaps, but a few counties away here

And an hour late? That's early for Axl.

Can't remember the three tracks after Testament. I haven't heard anything I have had to skip yet.

Anywhere else in Australia than Sydney or Melbourne and it wouldn't have raised as much of a mention.   The Sydney/Melbourne thing is a unique , sometimes caustic rivalry.   The capital city of Australia is Canberra and aside from a bunch of wanker politicians there's really not much there.   So the two genuine major cities have always had a complex about which is the real key Australian city.   They each have their advantages and the residents of each tend to be very parochial.  So to call us Sydney wasn't the smartest way to get 80,000 Melbournians on side :lol

The two cities of Cologne and Düsseldorf have a rivalry that dates back some hundred years. Bands from Cologne always greet their audience in Düsseldorf with "Hallo Köln" (Köln=Cologne) and vice versa. Not really funny but on the whole just no big thing.

And that Axl is an ass is nothing new either. But good for you Brent that you enjoyed it. I have very fond memories of my GnR concert on the Use Your Illusions tour, but I'm not sure if I want to see them again for fear of tainting those memories.
