Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

I love The Mirror, the contrast of the acoustic/clean bridge to the rest of the song is excellent writing  :tup :metal

Yeah shit yeah, love this.  Love the meter/feel changes during the intro... does amazing things to how ears perceive the chug.

Probably my favorite song off of Awake (which is btw my favorite DT album).

B.Lee

It IS my favorite song from Awake...not even close.

However, it does go directly into my least favorite song from Awake.  (still can't figure out why they chose it as a lead off single)

I actually used Audacity to do a mix of The Mirror that cuts out Lie.   The transition is *exactly* like the way they played it on Live Scenes From New York, and it sounds PERFECT.  I use that mix every time I want to put The Mirror on a mix CD.

I love the couple of The Mirror/Lie actually. 'The Mirror' is a bit better, but the reprise of 'The Mirror' in Lie is just awesome, and the JP solo there is exceptional.

But yeah.. The Mirror. Still THE heaviest song ever by DT I think. You just can't beat THAT riff. It's one chord, but the groove is monstrous.
Not 'Down To F***', but 'Dream Theater Forums' .

I tried that once, but the transition was awkward since the drop-off in heaviness from the moment The Mirror ends to the Mirror reprise is too severe; it just didn't sound like a natural transition, dynamically speaking.

Not if you start it right at the Puppies on Acid Reprise...then it doesn't drop off any more than it does in Lie.
