Can someone make the Along for the Ride lyrics less blurry from the review?

I loved it, great read!

I like to believe that Mangini is so good at drums that they sound triggered. Maybe it is true...

From The Bigger Picture section of the song-by-song analysis:

"This is perfection. It’s a prog metal power ballad done right."

And then, later, "And yet, this is probably still my least favorite track on this album"

...

I think at this point Surrender to Reason is the song I'm most looking forward to, with Illumination Theory being a close second.  Though I'm pretty damn excited about The Looking Glass and Enigma Machine as well.  And also the rest of the album.
Sincerely,
Jaffa

Seems like a pretty comprehensive review.

One question though: after you had written your initial review, what did you go back to add or edit, if anything?

Not sure if this has been seen, but here's the Amazon review:

Quote
Dream Theater's 2013 self-titled opus is a masterpiece of ambition, adventure and redefined purpose. Dream Theater heralds an exceptionally energized and profoundly dynamic emergent chapter for the melodic, progressive and consistently heavy masters of hard rock invention. Dream Theater is a name synonymous with the penultimate synthesis of studied expertise and relentless creative passion. It is an album that at once recalls the brilliant hallmarks that have made the band icons to fellow musicians and hard rock fans alike, while simultaneously a bold declaration of a future yet to come.

Dream Theater serves as both entry-point for curious newcomers and shining beacon to longtime devotees. It is a landmark statement befitting of not only the band's multiple milestones, but of their increasing prowess, perseverance and overall fulfillment from creating diverse, nuanced and atmospheric compositions. Evocative, transcendent, genre-defining and as hungry as ever, Dream Theater's music is as timeless as the dozen-album strong discography and more than 25 years of performing would suggest, while alternately ever-advancing toward new horizons.

Essentially tells you as much as that Premier Guitar review...absolutely nothing.
Those are really only meant to give a vague description of the band and album.

Another thank you to noxon for the detailed review. Given that I love TEI and that BC&SL is my favourite DT album, DT12 may very well be right up my alley in terms of what appeals to me personally in DT's music. I am even that much more excited by the review. With something as diverse as the DT catalogue, even a middle tier album is a gem. So many people on this forum name albums over 10 years old from the band as their faves, and have been disappointed by numerous recent efforts. Yet they support the band and continue to buy the albums. That's a real testament to the overall quality of DT's music and there is always something in each album for everyone.  :tup

I think I won´t listen to any new snippes/tracks until the cd comes out. I want to experience the whole thing.

They really need to cut that out. Digipaks are cool but gluing the booklet makes no sense.

Exactly! You put the words into my mouth. I've been a fan for 20 years and have been disappointed by DT's latest releases (except ADToE), but I will continue buying their albums for the one simple reason that they are Dream Theater. My favorite band.

According to Noxon's review the Dvd has a stereo mix also and that is the best version. Less compression thanks to the better quality and still playable for those without 5.1.

That's pretty much the last chance for some halfway decent audio quality.

BTW does anyone know if those who preordered the album will get the download version of AFTR just like we got TEI?

Greetings...
