50.  Prophets Of War - This is the first song in the history of DT that eventually made me decide to remove it from my play list and never listen to it again if at all possible.  I do not find anyting enjoyable out it whatsoever.  Well, actually, let me take that back.  Initially, I kinda liked the riff underneath the chorus.  But that's about it.  The one positive thing this song has going for it is that it resulted in this:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCdedrXu1wI

yeah, I'm not to fond of it either.  The riff is pretty good along with the chants from the "crowd" but that's not really enough to save it.

speaking of good things to come from it, doesn't James sing a short part of it in an indian accent in one of the studio clips?  Maybe it's a different song, but that actually made me laugh out loud.

bosk1

Yeah, that's true.  I also get a bit of a happy feeling knowing that Jackie is on that track.  But that's about it.

hefdaddy42

Well, those two songs are truly awful, no doubt.

Did I miss Raw Dog?

I still don't think Prophets of War is as bad as some make it out to be, but it still isn't very good.  DT can usually pack a really good punch with their shorter songs, but all three "shorter" songs on Systematic Chaos are, by and large, pretty big misses.

Perpetual Change

I don't dislike "You Not/Or Me" at all, but "Prophets" is pretty bad, despite there being a number of good things to say about the song. Actually, I'd say the "Prophets of War" chapter of Chaos in Progress is the single most compelling piece of evidence ever for why you might want MP as a drummer, but you sure don't want him as your major creative producer.

I'm trying to be constructive and not too negative for flamin' here, but you basically get to watch as MP "goes rogue" and trashes a number of pretty good musical ideas. I remember my brother was sitting down to watch it with me as MP was layering the "Queen" vocals, and he looked over at me and was like, "this is just a joke, right?" Man, the expression on his face when I told him that those ideas actually made the final cut of the album.

Of course, you can't let James off the hook. Those lyrics are pretty terrible, and the fact he and MP seem to have had such a good time mocking their own song just goes to show you how much of a labor of love "Prophets" really was.

Jackie?  Do we know someone that was part of that?

Cool Chris

Boo. I like PoW. It's probably in my bottom 50, but not in my bottom 20.
Maybe the grass is greener on the other side because you're not over there fucking it up.

Dublagent66

I would say that PoW is my least favorite too.  Last time I heard it was when SC came out.

Wow, I (and my wife) must be the only heathens who absolutely adore You Not Me (YOM too, but YNM is better to my ears).   I'd really love to hear them play it live sometime.

Actually, I like POW too, but there are a ton of songs above it in my preferences.  Sacrificed Sons is a much better show from Labrie and the band.

bout_to_crash.  She's part of the group of fans that got to do the "fight! the! fear!" group chants in the song (as well as the group chants in ITPOE2).

Excellent choice, I sympathize with your hate of this abhorrent song.

The Presence of Frenemies

Prophets of War is definitely one of the group's weaker cuts, but the riffing isn't bad, MP's vox are pretty awesome (I wish he'd have done those sort of vocals more often in DT, as opposed to growling or shouting), and the chorus is pretty catchy. I don't see why it would fall below You Not Me and the like, but that's what different opinions are for!

Lolzeez

Here are the songs by DT that make me cringe.

You Not Me
Never Enough
Prophets Of War
A Rite Of Passage
Build Me Up,Break Me Down

LieLowTheWantedMan

Burning My Soul is the only song I'd deem cringeworthy.

AngelBack

I wonder how many folks give this song a lower ranking than they normally would because of the political content ?

TBH, that's probably a non-factor.

Yeah, you are probably right.  I am not as well versed in their entire lyrical catalogue but I cant seem to think of another song that touches on a political issue as directly.

Ruba

I absolutely love Prophets of War, but my taste is very eclectic.

Well, thanks bosk, this one surely was fun to follow.

Onno

I like PoW. YNM is definitely the worst DT song for me, but I can still listen to it. I never ever skip it.

AngelBack

This was a cool thread.  I don't post a lot and can't remember if this has been done but I think a lot of people would enjoy a thread where we ask Dear Leader (Bosk) any random DT related question to get his opinion.

?

Can't really argue with that pick. Never Enough is probably the worst DT song that has appeared on a full-length album, but I rank POW really low too.

wasteland

Nothing can go as low as COnstant Motion for me. And Prophets Of War is a song I kinda like  :rollin

DebraKadabra

I rank Prophets above Space-Dye Vest, but not by much.

I'd rank it well above, because I've actually enjoyed PoW on occasion, even if for the wrong reasons. I've never derived any kind of enjoyment out of enduring Space Dye Vest.

Both songs made it into my top 50.  I figure both songs would have been more popular if they were done by a different band.

Full Speed

I like POW. Probably the only song on SC I would say that I like start to finish.

YNM is okay. It's more middle of the road for me. Don't love it don't hate it.
