Police: Singer Amy Winehouse found dead at her home in London

By Associated Press, Updated: Saturday, July 23, 12:55 PM

LONDON — Police say Amy Winehouse, the troubled diva who had struggled with drug and alcohol abuse, has been found dead at her home in London.

Police confirmed that a 27-year-old female was pronounced dead at the home in Camden Square northern London.

Police said the cause of death was not immediately clear.

Gigantic shocker.

Actually, no it isn't.  Anybody who knows even the slightest thing about her could've seen this coming.  Most likely due to drugs.

It's not really tragic. For something to be tragic, an element of irony needs to be there. Unfortunately, everyone who knew anything about Amy Whinehouse apparently saw this coming from a mile away.

Heh. Honestly, I think it's sadder that everyone, even her own parents, saw this coming years ago yet no-one could find a way to stop it from coming to this.

I see what you did there.

I don't  ???

It's spelled Winehouse, not Whinehouse. I thought it was intentional.  ;)

Yeah... most peeps saw it coming with Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison and Cobain too.  Still sad to see dope take another one.

Sad, but not surprised, and - if I'm brutally honest - not especially sympathetic, either, given her lyrical themes. Another cautionary tale returns to the earth. RIP, hope she enjoyed her fleeting window into the universe.

It's sad.  Another member of the 27 Club... though I don't think she made as much of an impact as Cobain, Hendrix, Joplin, or Morrison.

Maybe not, but being a recovering addict myself, I do have empathy.  I didn't realize that the others were all 27.....wow.

Sad because she was a human being (arguably). But a very minuscule loss.

I would assume so; they just found her dead today, I'd presume she'd been dead long since (insert joke if you will).

I can't say I have no sympathy. It's easy to condemn this kind of behaviour from our position of (relative) comfort and mental stability. For these people, alcohol or drugs are the only form of escape from a never ending cycle of pain and suffering. People don't choose to be addicts.

I think Jeff Buckley and his father Tim also.

No shocker though about Amy.

Edit:  I was wrong about both.

I was never a fan of her music, and not much of a fan of her whole persona, image, demeanor, etc. but it's still sad to see somebody fall victim to addiction, no matter who they are.

To be honest I'm actually surprised she made it this long...Based on what has been written in the papers the last few years about her I expected her to die soon.
