Lizard is awesome, I don't care what anyone else says, I love that album.
Agreed. It's fantastic.

So at this point, if you guys had to make a one disc compilation of Steven's solo material, what would you have on it?

I'd definitely have Abandoner, Veneno Para Las Hadas, Deform to Form a Star, Postcard, Remainder the Black Dog, Index (Live), The Watchmaker, and The Raven That Refused to Sing.

Probably forgetting some...

I would say something like this:

No Twilight Within the Courts of the Sun
Deform to Form a Star
Home in Negative
Index
The Raven That Refused to Sing
Get All That You Deserve
Raider II
Like Dust I Have Cleared From My Eye

I believe that's like 70 minutes of music, haha.

In chronological order (these probably fit on a single disc):

Harmony Korine
Abandoner
Salvaging
Get All You Deserve
Insurgentes
No Part of Me
Postcard
Index
Drive Home
The Holy Drinker
The Pin Drop

There's a disturbing lack of TRTRTS (song) on your list  But  :tup for the rest of it.

I would've added The Raven as well, but I wasn't sure if there was enough space for it.

I might not have listened to SW's solo albums enough (I've only been listening to his stuff since The Raven), but that song may very well be my favourite SW song.

I haven't heard anything more than once from Steven Wilson's solo stuff.  Grace For Drowning, from the two tracks I heard, probably not my cup of tea, but so far I'm enjoying The Raven album quite a bit.

I think I like the PT stuff better, though.

Narrowing SW's solo stuff down to one album would be difficult, but I do know that most of The Raven, Raider II, Deform to Form a Star, Remainder the Black Dog, Insurgentes, Salvaging, No Twilight... and No Part of Me would all have to be on there.  Of course, that's more than 80 minutes, so you see what I mean. :lol

1. Harmony Korine
2. Insurgentes
3. Remainder the black dog
4. Deform to form a star
5. Raider II
6. Luminol
7. Drive home
8. The Raven that refused to sing

Some obvious highlights of his solo career, some more accessible songs. Perfect for a compilation.  ;D

I don't know why, but I would picture myself bursting out into laughter if I ever saw a "BEST OF STEVEN WILSON" album cover randomly one day at my local record store.

Despite the fact that it's gotten so fucking old so damn long ago, the whole iPod/Wilson biz, that is...I still died of laughter when I saw a knock-off Porcupine Tree iPod case...that had FoaBP as the artwork. :metal

Yeah, the whole "Best of" or "Greatest Hits" seems like the very opposite of what SW would want to release. I think I'm similar to SW in that way, I don't care for collections of the "best" songs, I'd rather have the studio albums and hear the songs in the order they were intended to be heard, and in the context the artists wants me to hear them.

I'm a huge fan of Deform and also of Sectarian. I love how dark that one is.
This is as exciting as superluminal neutrinos. The sexy thing is that this actually exists :D

YES. definitely one of the most dynamic and interesting instrumentals SW has composed. it took me a while to get into it, though; some parts of GFD are less accessible in that way. however, it's become one of my favourite parts of the record, especially with the extra intro part from the demo version.

Sectarian is only okay on the record, but when I saw it live it kicked ass. It sounded much more heavy.

I liked Sectarian when I heard the album but seeing it live made me really appreciate it.

Am I the only one that loves the short transitional pieces? Belle de Jour is a really beautiful opening to the second disc. I remember seeing a SW interview where he said that it was one of the pieces he was most proud of from GFD, and I can definitely see why. And Raider Prelude has a really eerie and dark vibe, which I absolutely love. Not to mention the title track with Rudess on piano; I love that one too.

Not at all.  Belle de Jour is definitely most awesome., and I love how Raider Prelude leads into Remainder the Black Dog.

I was just thinking earlier about the Insurgentes movie. I need to watch that thing again, it's two hours of Steven Wilson being Steven Wilson and it's completely mad, but I love it (probably because it's mad).
