So...er...that would include 4/1, right?   :blush

So, Peter, I guess the next logical question that we all MUST have answered is:  How do you feel about the vocal stylings of the artist known as Rebecca Black?  Inquiring forum members want to know.

They all used the same set.

Which BTW is something I like.  It makes each drummer's performance about the performance rather than the kit.

Ok sorry bosk, won't do it again. Did you create a special colour scheme for PW? As in purple=possible DT drummer/simply musician? Because that's awesome :metal

Exactly, I was referring to the position of cymbals. It may mean nothing after all.

Man, as someone who studies a lot of math at uni I am geeking out over Peter being a math teacher. Maybe I shouldn't be, but I am! And I would imagine that would help with complex polyrhythms.

It's the "Forum VIP" user group, which is reserved for current and former band members and a few others who are close to the band in one capacity or another.  We have had a few people visit the forum from time to time who might fall into those categories, but I don't give that user group if they are posting here "under cover."  Peter is open about who he is, and given his work with James and his being part of the auditions, he definitely qualifies.

i agree with your context, but it looks like each guy tweaked the kit to their preference, and not just be how close and far things are. ie: mangini's had 5 or so rack toms, whereas lang only used 2. etc. so i'm not sure what you're saying stands up here in full. sure they didn't drag out ALL of their bells n whistles (altho i'd love to see if lang brought out his giant step), but still...

???  Wait...I thought YOU were John Myung.  I'm confused...

John's threads would be succinct and concise.  Two words I would not use in describing Aniland.

I agree that it is most likely Mangini, but not for any of the reasons you just posted. All 7 drummers used the same kit for the auditions.

Drummer perspective:
What is interesting they had Zildjian cymbals but MP has always played with Sabian. I'm not sure what drum set it is but I think Tama because octobans.
So anybody knows how they get this drum set?

Hey there!

Well finally I feel I can post here. I've been following this forum quite closely since September and I want to thank you all for entertaining reading! Most of all I'm very impressed with the detective work around here and the enormous commitment concerning the audition, fantastic fans!

One thing I'm still learning are all the abbreviation you and all DT (see even I use these abbreviations now, ha ha ha) fans use like JP, JR, ANTR etc... It's like you have your own language.   ;)
Hi, Peter, and welcome.  It's great to have you here, and I hope you will remain somewhat active when time allows!

Also, watch out for Charlie.

Friday, Friday

Gotta get down on Friday

BTW, last night's Tonight Show was a repeat of their episode several weeks ago featuring guest Rebecca Black.  She performed the song with the house band.

Glorious.

JP: "Dream Theater has never been just one person."

Does anybody else think that this was a sort of refutation of Portnoy's hefty control over the band in past years? As a sort of, "Look, those days are kaput."

Not necessarily.

But maybe.

So this has all been very interesting. I hope people outside the states will have a chance to watch this documentary at ~ the same time as the US viewers, without the surprise being 'spoiled.' It seems almost certain that Derek Roddy is out of the equation, which will surprise nobody. He is a great drummer, and very well known and respected within death metal circles, but I think everybody knew he wasn't going to fit well with the DT sound. He even said something to the same effect himself. In fact I can't think how anybody within the DT camp would have considered him a potential replacement. A cynic might say that he was only included in the audition process to attract interest from fans of a completely different genre.
